Grand Jury, Double Jeopardy, Self-Incrimidation, Due Process, and Compensation

Explanation:

Grand Jury: Simply, you won't have biased people deciding wether you're guilty or not. For example, teachers won't be your jury if you're being testified as a child predator, because they'll obviously be biased.

Double Jeopardy: Basically, once you're proven innocent, you can't be tried again. As in, once your innocent your innocent, they can't keep coming after you again and again until proven guilty.

Self-Incrimidation: "You have the right to remain silent." Does that phrase sound familar? It basically relates to your Miranda Rights. Don't have to say anything you don't want to say.

Due Process: Generally, Due Process protects your rights. You can defend yourself in court, the right to Life Liberty, Happiness. Specific reason for arresting you.

Compensation: Government can take your land if they have a good enough reason/warrent.

1) Discuss how the manufacturing production function is different than the agricultural production function in terms of the inputs in the production function, A Mt ,K Mt, and LMt
. How do the inputs in the manufacturing sector change over time after the industrial revolution? 2) Describe how your answer to part (1) can lead to a breakdown in Malthus's logic. Answers

1) is not fixed like the land is in the agricultural production function.

2) Due to rapid increases in factors like physical capital, education, and skills, lead to a breakdown in Malthus's logic.

1) First, physical capital is not fixed like the land is in the agricultural production function. Second, labor in manufacturing and services is not only a function of man hours as in the agricultural sector, but also a function of the education and skills of workers.

The industrial revolution led to new methods of production and increases in productivity . The industrial revolution led to consistent and quick rises in all three factors.

2) We assumed that in the steady-state productivity, land, and number of hours worked per worker were constant. However, the industrial revolution brought to a quick rise in physical capital, worker education and skill levels, new production techniques, and increased productivity. These lead to the breakdown of the steady-state assumption in our simple Malthus model, as the increase in factors outpaced the slower Malthusian forces.

How factory workers related to factory owner in Industrial Revolution???

Answers

The way that factory workers and factory owners related in the Industrial Revolution was that factory workers were mistreated and forced to work for long hours with little pay.

How were factory workers treated in the Industrial Revolution?

During the Industrial Revolution, Factory owners were bent on making as much profit as they could and so would often mistreat their workers to get these profits. They would expect them to work for long hours for seven days a week to produce as many goods as possible. They would also pay them very little in order to ensure that labor costs were as low as possible to keep net profits high.

Added to this, factory workers would not invest in safety measures in their factories and would instead make workers work in unsafe conditions that could injure them. For this reason, many workers did indeed get injured. We can therefore say that factory owners related poorly with factory workers.

Answers

Answer:

EDUCATION IN THE SOUTHERN COLONIES

In the 1840's, the growth of state funded public education was blossoming in states from Connecticut to Illinois (see also "Normal Schools" in the Common School section of this web page). However, the Southern states did not have a tradition of public education to build on, as the North did, and in fact, it was well after the Civil War before the South legislated for state supported schools. This occurred for several different reasons.

First and foremost, Southerners believed that education was a private matter and not a concern for the state. They were quick to point out that in all traditional societies the most important training a child receives is in the home where he/she is inducted into the values of the society he/she is about to enter. If the family fails in this endeavor, then how can the schools be more successful? They felt a priority should be placed upon creating a college-bred elite, if their traditions and way of life were to be successfully transferred to successive generations. This system helped to perpetuate the sharply defined social-class structure which existed in the South. There were planters (plantation owners) and there were slaves; no middle-class existed in the South to bridge the gap between upper and lower classes, and as such, there was no demand for services beyond that provided for those who could afford to pay. Another reason that public education did not flourish in the South was that the population was more dispersed than it was in the North, making it difficult to find enough children in one area to justify a school. Also, the Anglican religion of the South did not put quite as much emphasis on religious indoctrination through schooling as did Puritan New England. The final reason was the South's feeling about slavery, which will be mentioned below.

There were some Southerners who supported a public school system. Many of these supporters solicited advice and materials from Horace Mann, the first secretary of the first State Board of Education, created in Massachusetts in 1837. Mann also published a newsletter, "The Common School Journal" which provided information about the public school system to anyone expressing an interest in learning more about the Massachusetts experiment. As a result, he engaged in extensive correspondence. In response to the Southerners' distrust of public education Mann wrote "...colleges and academies never will act downward to raise the mass of people by education; but, on the contrary, common schools will feed and sustain the academies and colleges. Heat ascends, and it will warm upwards, but it will not warm downwards." As public opinion solidified in the south in defense of the Southern way of life, ideas originating in the north, particularly regarding education, were considered "subversive". The Prussian educational methods so popular in New England were denounced as "autocratic."

"Knowledge is Power" and as events conspired to bring the Civil War ever closer, the Southerner asked, "Who should be entrusted with this power?" Certainly not a slave. Southern colonies began passing laws to make it a crime to teach slaves to read and write. Only the Catholics and Friends (Quakers) continued their efforts to educate the black people in the South, and they were few in number. The North, with its Puritan heritage, had for many decades supported education as a means of providing religious training to its children. In the South, where the religious emphasis was Anglican (Church of England), the religious leaders supported the slave owners by providing oral (not written) religious training for the slaves. One minister commented that instead of reading the Bible, literate slaves would soon be reading documents filtering down from the North inciting rebellion, and pose a threat to the Southern family. Supporting slavery as an institution became the patriotic thing to do.

A.
how enslaved people were held at slave castles before crossing the Atlantic
B.
how sick enslaved people were thrown overboard
C.
the careful seasoning process enslaved Africans endured
D.
the separation of parents and children

Answers

The incident of the Zong reflects the cruel nature of slavery in accounts that describe (B) how sick enslaved people were thrown overboard.

The Zong was a slave ship that sailed from Africa to Jamaica in 1781. The ship was overcrowded with enslaved Africans and many of them fell ill and died during the voyage.

The crew of the ship decided to throw sick enslaved people overboard to reduce the number of people on the ship and to claim the loss on their insurance policy. This inhumane act resulted in the death of more than 130 enslaved Africans.

The incident of the Zong highlights the brutality of the slave trade and the disregard for human life that characterized it. The slave trade was a system of exploitation that dehumanized millions of Africans and their descendants.

Enslaved people were treated as property rather than human beings and subjected to extreme forms of violence and cruelty. The incident of the Zong serves as a reminder of the legacy of slavery and the ongoing struggle for justice and equality. The correct answer is B.

The U.S. government gives power to the citizens statement describes a way that Athenian democracy influenced the US government.

What is Athenian democracy?

The assembly meetings were the main political gatherings of ancient Athens. Members of the assembly, unlike those in a parliament, were not chosen; rather, they came as they pleased.

Any adult male citizen over the age of 20 may participate, and it was required to do so. This type of Greek democracy was established in Athens and was direct rather than representative.

In a procedure known as sortition, the representatives of the democracy were selected in large part by lottery and selected in part by the Assembly.

The assembly's four primary duties were to issue executive orders, elect some officials, pass laws, and adjudicate cases of political crimes. The last function was transferred to the legal system's courts as the system developed.

What were the two arguments against women having the vote?

Anti-suffragists said that the majority of women did not want the right to vote. Some claimed that women lacked the knowledge or the capacity to think critically about political matters.

What was the movement against suffrage?

Anti-suffragism was, to some extent, a Classical Conservative movement that rejected the idea of granting women equal suffrage rights and aimed to maintain the status quo for women.
