the expected return on hilo stock is 14.90 percent while the expected return on the market is 13 percent. the beta of hilo is 1.31. what is the risk-free rate of return? multiple choice 3.44% 6.87% 2.46% 1.90% 8.18%

Answers

The risk-free rate of return is approximately 2.46%. Option C is correct.

The Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) can be used to estimate the expected return on an asset based on its beta, the expected return on the market, and the risk-free rate of return. The formula for the CAPM is as follows:

Expected return = Risk-free rate + Beta x (Expected market return - Risk-free rate)

In this case, we know that the expected return on Hilo stock is 14.90%, the expected return on the market is 13%, and the beta of Hilo is 1.31. We need to solve for the risk-free rate of return.

Plugging in the values, we get:

14.90% = Risk-free rate + 1.31 x (13% - Risk-free rate)

Simplifying the equation, we get:

14.90% = Risk-free rate + 1.31 x 13% - 1.31 x Risk-free rate

14.90% = 0.69 x Risk-free rate + 1.31 x 13%

Substituting the values, we get:

14.90% = 0.69 x Risk-free rate + 17.03%

Solving for the risk-free rate, we get:

Risk-free rate = (14.90% - 17.03%) / 0.69

Risk-free rate = approximately 2.46%

As a result, the risk-free rate of return is about 2.46%. Option C is correct.

______ Is a market in which a large number of suppliers compete with each other to satisfy the needs and wants of a large numbers of consumers at a competitive price.???

Answers

Answer : Monopolistic competition

Answer:

Monopolistic Competition

Explanation:

In a monopolistic competitive market, there are large numbers of sellers who do not sell identical products instead they sell differential products. They compete with each other at a competitive price. The products could be differentiated in many ways including quality, style, location and even brand name. Since they compete at a competitive price, if there is a substantial rise in the price of any of the products, the buyers could quickly shift from one product to another. The most crucial factor behind product differentiation is because of geographical factors. Under a monopolistic competitive market, the sellers do not have any influence over customer loyalty and limited control over the price.

In economics, opportunity cost is also known as the foregone alternative. It is the loss of other alternatives due to the fact that one had to pick a different alternative.

Lets assume that Mohammad had only $100 but needed this new oven, a new shirt and a pair of sneakers and this amount can only get him one of these items.

Since Mohammad has gone ahead to buy the oven instead of the sneakers or shirt, the opportunity cost of getting the oven is the shirt and the sneakers that he did not buy.

This is because he would lose the benefits that he would have gained from using the items he did not buy.

Problem-Solving Case: City of Everett Bets Big on Green Buses
When it comes to goals, the city of Everett, Washington, 25 miles north of Seattle, has set an ambitious one. Its municipal transportation department started as a privately operated horse-drawn trolley more than 125 years ago. Today Everett Transit is a major provider of public transportation services, with more than 40 fixed-route buses serving thousands of the city’s commuters every day.
In just the last few years, the city has added nine electric buses to its fleet, the first seven of which have logged more than 121,00 miles, and its long-term goal is to replace at least half its 40 buses with electric buses by the end of 2022. According to the department’s website, "This will reduce emissions, allowing us to be good stewards of our environment and help achieve our mission of supporting a livable community. We are charging toward a greener Everett!" Carbon emissions are expected to go down by about 900,000 pounds a year. Other expected benefits of the electric fleet include reduced engine noise in the city’s streets and major savings on fuel and maintenance.
The city was able to budget for the purchase of electric buses, which are more expensive than the diesel models they are replacing, by using a federal grant and a grant from Washington State’s Department of Ecology (the latter was part of a multimillion-dollar settlement with Volkswagen for its illegal use of software designed to cheat on vehicle emissions tests). These grants helped bridge any potential budget gap. Everett is also benefiting from the fact that the new buses are still under warranty, so repair costs have been minimal. But there have been some surprises.
First, the electric buses can travel only about 100 miles (an eight-hour shift for a driver) before they need to be recharged, despite the manufacturer’s expectation that they would go 200 miles between charges. Second, maintaining the buses has required extra money and time. For instance, to ensure technicians’ safety when working around high-voltage engines, special equipment had to be purchased and a system developed to ensure safety when working on the vehicles’ roofs. Bus drivers were also given two hours of training to learn how to operate the new buses, which are "substantially different than anything we have previously had in our fleet," according to the city’s Transportation Services Director, Tom Hingson. "Supervisors have learned how to support operators when they are on the road and face any issues. Technicians are still working with the manufacturer as they learn to service the vehicles."
page 158
Routes were selected with care, too. The federal grant that helped pay for the electric buses requires that the first few be used in high-impact areas, and the state grant specifies that they serve environmentally sensitive areas such as the city’s waterfront. As Everett acquires more electric buses, however, they will be spread throughout the city’s routes. Meanwhile, the city looks forward to reducing air pollution from diesel exhaust and improving the health of its citizens.
Why do you think Everett set such an ambitious goal for transforming its fleet? Based on its achievements so far, do you think it is likely to meet that goal? Why or why not?
What additional training needs among its drivers and maintenance workers do you think the city will need to plan for as it adds electric buses in the next few years? What role will its supervisors play?
What factors do you think the city’s budget planners will need to take into account as the number of electric buses increases?
What contingencies would you advise Everett’s transportation department to prepare for?

Answers

The city of Everett set such an ambitious goal for transforming its fleet primarily to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and become a more environmentally sustainable city. By transitioning to electric buses, Everett aims to lower carbon emissions and minimize the environmental impact of its transportation system.

As for whether Everett is likely to meet its goal, the information provided suggests that the city has made significant progress by adding nine electric buses to its fleet. These factors may impact the pace of the transition and the ability to replace half of the fleet by the end of 2022.

It would require careful planning, continuous improvements in technology and infrastructure, and effective coordination among various stakeholders to meet the ambitious goal on time. As Everett adds more electric buses to its fleet, additional training needs among its drivers and maintenance workers should be anticipated.

a) Familiarization with electric bus technology: Drivers and maintenance workers will need training to understand the unique features, operating procedures, and safety protocols specific to electric buses.

b) Charging and battery management: Training should include instructions on how to efficiently charge the buses, manage battery life, and handle any charging-related issues that may arise.

c) Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills: Maintenance workers should receive training on diagnosing and resolving electric bus-specific technical problems, as these vehicles have different systems and components compared to traditional diesel buses.

Supervisors will play a crucial role in supporting drivers and maintenance workers during this transition. They should ensure that the training programs are comprehensive, regularly assess the skill levels of their teams, and provide ongoing guidance and feedback.

The amount of cash that a company's equity shareholders have access to after all costs, reinvestment, and debt repayment is taken into account is known as flow to equity. Answers

To determine the earnings per share of common stock for each plan, given that the income before bond interest income tax is $2,100,000, we would require more information such as the number of outstanding shares of common stock for each plan.

Without the number of outstanding shares, we cannot calculate the earnings per share. The formula to calculate the earnings per share of common stock is: EPS = (Net income – Preferred dividends) ÷ Average outstanding common shares Thus, we need to know the average outstanding common shares for each plan. Once we have that information, we can plug in the numbers into the formula and calculate the earnings per share for each plan. As of now, the question does not provide the number of outstanding shares, and so we cannot calculate the earnings per share of common stock for each plan.

Monsanto sells genetically modified seed to farmers. It needs to decide how much seed to put into a warehouse to serve demand for the next growing season. It will make one quantity decision. It costs Montanso $8 to make each kilogram (kilogram) of seed. It sells each kilogram for $45. If it has more seed than demanded by the local farmers, the remaining seed is sent overseas. Unfortunately, it only earns $3 per kilogram from the overseas market (but this is better than destroying the seed because it cannot be stored until next year). If demand exceeds its quantity, then the sales are lost—the farmers go to another supplier. As a forecast for demand, it will use a normal distribution with a mean of 300,000 and a standard deviation of 100,000. Use Table 13.4.

Answers

Monsanto should put 344,000 kilograms of seed into the warehouse to improve the expected profit.

The costs Montanso = $8

Selling price = $45

Overseas market price =  $3 per kilogram

Mean = 300,000

Standard deviation = 100,000

The profit function is given by:

Profit = Revenue - Cost

Profit = (Price sold x Quantity sold) - (Cost x Quantity produced)

Expected Profit = P(Demand < Q) * Profit when demand is less than Q + P(Demand >= Q) * Profit when demand is greater than Q

Expected Profit = P(Z < (Q-300,000)/100,000) * ((45 * min(Q, 300,000)) - (8 * Q)) + P(Z >= (Q-300,000)/100,000) * ((45 * Q) + (3 * max(0, (300,000-Q))))

Expected Profit = (45 - 8) * P(Z < (Q-300,000)/100,000) - (45 - 3) * P(Z >= (Q-300,000)/100,000) = 0

37 * P(Z < (Q-300,000)/100,000) = 42 * P(Z >= (Q-300,000)/100,000)

P(Z < (Q-300,000)/100,000) = 42/79

(Q - 300,000)/100,000 = 0.44

Quantity = 344,000 kilograms

Therefore, we can conclude that Monsanto should put 344,000 kilograms of seed into the warehouse to improve the expected profit.

If new_capacity is not a positive integer or if new_capacity < self.size, this method should not do any work and just exit.#Starter Codeclass DynamicArrayException(Exception):"""Custom exception class to be used by Dynamic ArrayDO NOT CHANGE THIS METHOD IN ANY WAY"""passclass DynamicArray:def __init__(self, start_array=None):"""Initialize new dynamic arrayDO NOT CHANGE THIS METHOD IN ANY WAY"""self.size = 0self.capacity = 4self.data = [None] * self.capacity# populate dynamic array with initial values (if provided)# before using this feature, implement append() methodif start_array is not None:for value in start_array:self.append(value)def __str__(self) -> str:"""Return content of dynamic array in human-readable formDO NOT CHANGE THIS METHOD IN ANY WAY"""out = "DYN_ARR Size/Cap: "out += str(self.size) + "/"+ str(self.capacity)out += " " + str(self.data[:self.size])return outdef resize(self, new_capacity: int) -> None:"""TODO: Write this implementation"""returndef append(self, value: object) -> None:"""TODO: Write this implementation"""if self.sizeself.data[self.size]=valueself.size+=1else:temp=[None] * self.capacitytsize=self.capacityfor i in range(tsize):temp[i] = self.data[i]self.capacity *= 2self.size = 0self.data = [None] * self.capacityfor i in range(tsize):self.append(temp[i])self.append(value)self.size = 0self.data = [None] * self.capacityfor i in range(tsize):self.append(temp[i])self.append(value)#returnA few examples of how the method might be used:Example #1:da = DynamicArray()print(da.size, da.capacity, da.data)da.resize(10)print(da.size, da.capacity, da.data)da.resize(2)print(da.size, da.capacity, da.data)da.resize(0)print(da.size, da.capacity, da.data)Output:0 4 [None, None, None, None]0 10 [None, None, None, None, None, None, None, None, None, None]0 2 [None, None]0 2 [None, None]NOTE: Example 2 below will not work properly until after append() method is implemented.Example #2:da = DynamicArray([1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8])print(da)da.resize(20)print(da)da.resize(4)print(da)Output:DYN_ARR Size/Cap: 8/8 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]DYN_ARR Size/Cap: 8/20 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]DYN_ARR Size/Cap: 8/20 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8] how Marcus Garvey advocated black nationalism through economic independence in the United States?
