A mixture of ozone and oxygen containing 20% by volume of ozone, diffused through a porous plug in 172 seconds, while the same volume of pure oxygen took 164 seconds to diffuse through the same plug. Calculate the relative density of ozone.

Answers

Answer 1

The molecular mass of ozone is 106.7 g/mol (since it has 3 oxygen atoms). The molecular mass of oxygen is 32 g/mol. The relative density of ozone is therefore: relative density of ozone = (106.7/32) = 3.34

We can use Graham's law of diffusion, which states that the rates of diffusion of gases are inversely proportional to the square roots of their molecular masses.

Let's assume that the volume of gas diffusing through the plug is the same in both cases. Then:

rate of diffusion of ozone/oxygen mixture = 1/172

rate of diffusion of pure oxygen = 1/164

Let's use M to represent the molecular mass of ozone. Then the molecular mass of oxygen is 32 (since it is O2). Using Graham's law we can write: (rate of diffusion of ozone/oxygen mixture)/(rate of diffusion of pure oxygen) = sqrt(32/M)

Substituting in the values we get:

(1/172)/(1/164) = sqrt(32/M)

Simplifying:

164/172 = sqrt(32/M)

0.9535 = sqrt(32/M)

M = (32/0.9535)^2

M = 1067.6

So, the correct option is C.

Financial, human, organizational, physical, and technological resources, and skills are common throughout businesses. This begs the question for strategists of which so-called core capabilities offer a source of long-term competitive advantage. According to resource-based theory, businesses that possess "strategic resources" have substantial advantages over rival businesses in the marketplace.

Some resources, like money and vehicles, are not regarded as key resources since rival businesses may easily obtain them. Instead, a resource is strategic to the extent that it is priceless, uncommon, hard to duplicate, and structured to maximize value. In addition to reducing rivals' possibilities and threats, valuable resources also help the business become more productive and efficient.

3) Suppose a competitive firm sells its goods at the market equilibrium price of $40. The firm's cost function is TC = 100 + 10Q + 2Q?.. What will be the firm's profit maximizing quantity? How much profit will this firm attain?

Answers

In economics, competitive firms are enterprises that work within a perfectly competitive market. When a firm operates in a perfectly competitive market, it implies that the firm produces goods or services that are similar to those produced by other companies in the market.

A perfectly competitive market has several features that are essential to the idealization of such a market. These features include a vast number of buyers and sellers, easy entry and exit from the industry, homogeneity of the product, perfect knowledge of the market and no influence on price. Market equilibrium refers to the balance between supply and demand within the market. When a market reaches its equilibrium, the price and the quantity of the good or service that producers offer and consumers are willing to purchase correspond. The cost function of a firm is the function that measures the costs incurred by the firm in its production processes. The total cost (TC) of producing a given output (Q) is the sum of the fixed cost (FC) and the variable cost (VC), given by TC = FC + VC. In this question, the cost function of the competitive firm is TC = 100 + 10Q + 2Q². Now, let's find the firm's profit-maximizing quantity of output by computing its marginal cost and marginal revenue. The marginal cost (MC) is the cost of producing one extra unit of output and is calculated by taking the derivative of the total cost function with respect to quantity Q, giving:MC = dTC/dQ = 10 + 4QThe marginal revenue (MR) is the revenue from selling one extra unit of output, given by the market equilibrium price P, which is $40. Therefore:MR = P = $40Since the firm is operating in a competitive market, it implies that it is a price-taker. As such, the firm must set its price equal to the market equilibrium price of $40.The profit-maximizing quantity of output is where MR = MC. Therefore, equating MR to MC:MR = MC10 + 4Q = 40Q = (40 - 10) / 4 = 7.5 units. This means that if the firm produces 7.5 units, it will attain the profit-maximizing quantity. To find the profit, we need to use the profit equation, which is: Profit = TR - TCwhere TR is total revenue which is the product of the price P and quantity Q, given by TR = P x Q= $40 x 7.5= $300The total cost (TC) is given by the cost function of the firm, which is TC = 100 + 10Q + 2Q²Therefore, the total cost at the profit-maximizing quantity is:TC = 100 + 10(7.5) + 2(7.5)²= 100 + 75 + 2(56.25)= $287.50Now, the profit can be computed as follows:Profit = TR - TC= $300 - $287.50= $12.50Therefore, the firm will attain a profit of $12.50 if it produces 7.5 units.

Organizations can be either flat or steep - and that's not referring to the building they are housed in? - A flat organization is one where there aren't many opportunities to move up - there's one manager over several positions, and there's not much above that person. - A steep organizational chart is one where there is a hierarchy. Your boss reports to someone who reports to someone, and there are a few more layers before the President of the company Food Service companies have that as well. IN A GENERAL SENSE... Sodexo is a 'steep' company, while Compass Canada and Marquise are much 'flatter'. Both have positives and negatives associated with their structure. What would you expect are these positives and negatives? What have you experienced?

Answers

Organizational structure refers to how an organization's activities are organized and coordinated. This involves management of activities and delegation of tasks to employees.

There are different types of organizational structures:

Flat organizations: Organizations with few or no levels of middle management between staff and executives. Generally, flat organizations have a wider span of control, with executives having a larger number of direct reports. This implies that employees are responsible for more duties, while executives may interact with employees more often.

Steep organizational charts: Organizations with many levels of middle management between staff and executives. Steep organizations have a narrow span of control, which means that executives have a smaller number of direct reports and are responsible for fewer tasks.

The benefits and drawbacks of flat and steep organizational charts are as follows:

Flat organizations have a number of advantages:

They promote teamwork and collaboration among employees and departments.

They provide employees with greater autonomy and responsibility, which can lead to increased job satisfaction.

They promote communication between executives and employees, which can lead to a better understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.

They can operate more efficiently and flexibly than hierarchical organizations because there are fewer layers of management.

Steep organizations have a number of advantages:

They promote specialization and expertise among employees, which can lead to higher productivity and quality.

They provide clear lines of authority and accountability, which can facilitate decision-making and reduce conflict.

They promote career development and opportunities for advancement, which can lead to increased motivation and loyalty.

If both Megacable and Acme refrain from spending anything on lobbying, the expected profit from the contract will be $2.5 million. This is because each firm has a 50 percent chance of winning the contract, and the economic profit for the winner is $5 million. So the expected profit for each firm is 0.5 x $5 million = $2.5 million. Therefore, the correct answer is b) $2.5 million.
The given scenario involves Megacable and Acme competing for a contract, with the winner determined by their spending on lobbying or a coin flip if they spend equally. If both firms refrain from spending anything on lobbying, they would have an equal chance (50 percent) of winning the contract.

To calculate the expected profit when both firms refrain from spending on lobbying, you would multiply the probability of winning the contract by the economic profit:

Expected profit = (Probability of winning) × (Economic profit)
Expected profit = (0.5) × ($5 million)
Expected profit = $2.5 million

List and fully explain each of the phases of the Business Cycle.

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

1. Expansion

The first stage in the business cycle is expansion. In this stage, there is an increase in positive economic indicators such as employment, income, output, wages, profits, demand, and supply of goods and services. Debtors are generally paying their debts on time, the velocity of the money supply is high, and investment is high. This process continues as long as economic conditions are favorable for expansion.

2. Peak

The economy then reaches a saturation point, or peak, which is the second stage of the business cycle. The maximum limit of growth is attained. The economic indicators do not grow further and are at their highest. Prices are at their peak. This stage marks the reversal point in the trend of economic growth. Consumers tend to restructure their budgets at this point.

3. Recession

The recession is the stage that follows the peak phase. The demand for goods and services starts declining rapidly and steadily in this phase. Producers do not notice the decrease in demand instantly and go on producing, which creates a situation of excess supply in the market. Prices tend to fall. All positive economic indicators such as income, output, wages, etc., consequently start to fall.

4. Depression

There is a commensurate rise in unemployment. The growth in the economy continues to decline, and as this falls below the steady growth line, the stage is called a depression.

5. Trough

In the depression stage, the economy’s growth rate becomes negative. There is further decline until the prices of factors, as well as the demand and supply of goods and services, contract to reach their lowest point. The economy eventually reaches the trough. It is the negative saturation point for an economy. There is extensive depletion of national income and expenditure.

6. Recovery

After the trough, the economy moves to the stage of recovery. In this phase, there is a turnaround in the economy, and it begins to recover from the negative growth rate. Demand starts to pick up due to low prices and, consequently, supply begins to increase. The population develops a positive attitude towards investment and employment and production starts increasing.

Employment begins to rise and, due to accumulated cash balances with the bankers, lending also shows positive signals. In this phase, depreciated capital is replaced, leading to new investments in the production process. Recovery continues until the economy returns to steady growth levels.

This jacket is so thin. It can't possibly keep out the rain."(Use the boomerang method.)

Answers

Answer:

The jacket is thin because it uses a fiber called thinsulate that enables it to have the lightest weight but is also the warmest.

Explanation:

In general marketing, the boomerang method refers to the 'reconstruction' of the customer's objection into the main reason for buying. In other words, using the same excuse that a customer has about a product to entice him/her to buy that product by reframing it as a selling point is known as the boomerang method.

In the given scenario, the customer's objection is about the thinness of the jacket can be used as a selling point by the salesman by stating that the lightness of the jacket is what makes it a good product. So, if the seller tells the customer "the jacket is thin because it uses a fiber called Thinsulate that makes it thin but also warm", then that will make it an interesting and important factor for the customer to like the product more.
