Is it ethical for companies to use ads that ask people to buy things that are unhealthy? Why or why not?
Is it ethical for companies to use images that are intended to manipulate the audience into thinking a luxury is necessary? Why or why not?

Answers

i’d say all are ethical it’s just they’re way of selling products. 1. advertising to children so heavily is a way of getting parents to buy the product, if a child is begging a parent for some product they seen on television most likely they will. 2. most people like unhealthy things/ junk food (i’m guessing this is about food) the more you see an advertisement about a restaurant and the food looks good the more you’re going to want to eat there. 3. manipulating audiences is a good way of selling products, doesn’t matter if it’s pretty people just buy luxury items to brag how much it was or that they have the item.

It is not ethical for companies to advertise to children so heavily. The American Academy of Pediatrics claims that too much exposure to marketing might encourage kids to smoke, drink, and eat poorly, which frequently results in obesity. Children are told by the advertising that they must have certain things in order to be happy and acceptable.

Why is advertising to children particularly troubling to ethicists?

Constantly exposing young children to complex marketing content may cause them to develop negative societal ideals like consumerism and materialism.

Children have little to no money of their own and must convince their parents to purchase things on their behalf, hence advertising to kids is unethical. Companies employ a "nag and complain" technique that fosters resentment between parents and children rather than directly marketing to parents.

Answer:

After this stalemate, Missouri renewed its application for statehood in late 1819. This time, Speaker of the House Henry Clay proposed that Congress admit Missouri to the Union as a slave state, but at the same time admit Maine (which at the time was part of Massachusetts) as a free state. In February 1820, the Senate added a second part to the joint statehood bill: With the exception of Missouri, slavery would be banned in all of the former Louisiana Purchase lands north of an imaginary line drawn at 36º 30’ latitude, which ran along Missouri’s southern border.

On March 3, 1820, the House passed the Senate version of the bill, and President James Monroe signed it into law four days later. The following month, the former President Thomas Jefferson wrote to a friend that the “Missouri question...like a fire bell in the night, awakened and filled me with terror. I considered it at once as the knell of the Union. It is hushed indeed for the moment. But this is a reprieve only, not a final sentence.”

Repeal of the Missouri Compromise

Though the Missouri Compromise managed to keep the peace—for the moment—it failed to resolve the pressing question of slavery and its place in the nation’s future. Southerners who opposed the Missouri Compromise did so because it set a precedent for Congress to make laws concerning slavery, while Northerners disliked the law because it meant slavery was expanded into new territory.

In the decades after 1820, as westward expansion continued, and more of the Louisiana Purchase lands were organized as territories, the question of slavery’s extension continued to divide the nation. The Compromise of 1850, which admitted California to the Union as a free state, required California to send one pro-slavery senator to maintain the balance of power in the Senate.

In 1854, during the organization of Kansas and Nebraska Territories, Senator Stephen Douglas of Illinois spearheaded the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which mandated that the settlers of each territory should decide the issue of slavery for themselves, a principle known as popular sovereignty. The controversial law effectively repealed the Missouri Compromise by allowing slavery in the region north of the 36º 30’ parallel. Passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act sparked violence between pro- and anti-slavery settlers in “Bleeding Kansas,” delaying Kansas’ admission to the Union. Opposition to the act led to the formation of the Republican Party, and the emergence to national prominence of Douglas’s Illinois rival, a formerly obscure lawyer named Abraham Lincoln.

The main parties in the US are the democratic party, republican party, and liberal party. However usually, it comes down to the democratic and republican partys. In what ways do the Crusades lend themselves to the current mistrust between Christians and Muslims? Explain your answer using complete sentences.
No links pleas

Answers

Answer:

Muslim forces ultimately expelled the European Christians who invaded the eastern Mediterranean repeatedly in the 12th and 13th centuries—and thwarted their effort to regain control of sacred Holy Land sites such as Jerusalem. Still, most histories of the Crusades offer a largely one-sided view, drawn originally from European medieval chronicles, then filtered through 18th and 19th-century Western scholars.

Explanation:

The Crusades increased Muslim religious tolerance. The Crusades heightened Muslims' suspicion of Europeans. The Crusades strengthened the Muslim empires. Constantinople's power grew as a result of the Crusades.

How did the Crusades impact Christianity?

The movement contributed to both the militarization of the medieval western Church and the persistence of criticism of that militarization. It may have contributed to the pope's control of the Church by making certain financial innovations central to Church operations. And it reflected as well as influenced devotional trends.

The Crusades had an impact on some socio-religious elements of the Muslim world, though not as profoundly as on Western Europe. Furthermore, the bitter legacy of these wars widened the hostility, hatred, and dissent that still exists between the West and the Muslim world in some form or another.

Venezuela's economy was basically led by the petroleum industry, depending upon its vast oil reserves. Oil production and exports played crucial role in driving the country's economy and producing significant government revenue.

For several years, Venezuela's economy was primarily led by the petroleum industry, which is closely tied to its vast reserves of oil, making it one of the greatest oil producers in the world. Venezuela possesses significant oil deposits, especially in the Orinoco Belt, with heavy crude oil that needs professional and restricted refining processes.

The petroleum industry played a vital role in driving Venezuela's economy, considering for a sufficient portion of its government revenue export earnings. Oil exports provided the country with considerable foreign exchange reserves and allowed for investment in various fields sectors. Venezuela's national oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. It inspired significant foreign direct investment and fostered the growth of related industries, including refining, oilfield services and petrochemicals. The revenues and taxes from oil exports pushed the government towards spending on social programs, petrochemicals and subsidies.

However, the heavy reliance on oil exports also made Venezuela at risk to fluctuations in global oil prices. A.An international rights group is urging the U.S. government to protect children who work on U.S. tobacco farms.

B.Cigarette makers do not believe that more regulations are needed, saying that they require growers to provide a safe environment for workers.

C.Kentucky State Senator Paul Hornback employs workers on his Kentucky tobacco farm.

D.A report states that children sometimes work in hazardous conditions on U.S. tobacco farms.

International rights group Human Rights Watch released a report about children who work on U.S. tobacco farms. In response to the results, the organization is urging the government and the tobacco industry to protect these young workers.
The report is based on interviews with more than 140 children working on farms in the U.S. states of North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. It claims that children as young as 7 are in some cases working long hours in fields harvesting tobacco leaves. Sometimes, the work is done under hazardous conditions. Most of what the group documented is legal. Human Rights Watch wants cigarette makers to push for safety on farms from which they buy tobacco. The group also wants the U.S. government to change labor laws.
"The U.S. has failed America's families by not meaningfully protecting child farmworkers from dangers to their health and safety, including on tobacco farms," said Margaret Wurth, a children's rights researcher who co-authored the report.
In their interviews, the child tobacco farm workers indicated that their health and safety were indeed at risk. Nearly three-quarters of them reported becoming ill, with symptoms including vomiting, nausea, and headaches. These are indications of Green Tobacco Sickness, which can occur when a person handles tobacco leaves and nicotine is absorbed into the skin. The children also reported working long hours, often in extremely hot conditions, which can be dangerous. They said that they were not given overtime pay or sufficient breaks. In addition, the children and they donned no, or inadequate, protective gear.

U.S. law puts limits on labor performed by minors (children under age 18). But these restrictions vary by industry.

According to the Human Rights Watch report, U.S. agriculture labor laws are more lax, allowing children to work longer hours at younger ages and in more hazardous conditions than children in any other industry. With a parent's permission, children as young as 12 can be hired for unlimited hours outside of school hours on a farm of any size. There's no minimum age for children to work on small farms. In 2011, the U.S. Labor Department proposed changes that would have prohibited age 16 from working on tobacco farms. However, these changes were never passed into law.
Human Rights Watch met with many of the world's biggest cigarette makers and tobacco growers to discuss its findings. The group hoped to push the farms and companies to adopt or strengthen their labor and safety policies. The companies say that they are concerned about child labor. They have developed standards, including requiring growers to provide a safe work environment and adhere to child labor laws.

NOTES
Two Golden Ages
After the Han dynasty (Wudi, Silk Road) collapsed in 220CE, China remained a divided land for about 400 years. During this period of division, China managed to escape the grim world that Western Europe was experiencing (plague, economic failures, etc.). Farm production in China expanded and technology slowly improved. Buddhism spread, while learning and the arts continued. Even Chinese cities survived despite invaders in the North, as the invaders would often adopt Chinese civilization rather than demolish it. Meanwhile, in the South, various Chinese dynasties rose and fell.
THE TANG DYNASTY
The first two Tang emperors were father (Li Yuan) and son (Li Shimin), but the son was the main force behind the dynasty. After time, Li Shimin, compelled his aging father to step down and took the throne himself, taking the name Tang Taizong. He was a brilliant general, government reformer, famous historian, and master of the calligraphy brush. He would eventually become the most admired of all Chinese emperors.
The Tang Dynasty, under the leadership of Tang Taizong, carried empire building to greater heights, conquering territories deep into Central Asia, as far as present-day Afghanistan. Chinese armies forced neighboring lands of Vietnam, Tibet, and Korea to become tributary states. A tributary state is an independent state that has to acknowledge the supremacy of another state and pay tribute to its ruler. Therefore, while these states remained independent, their rulers had to acknowledge Chinese supremacy and send regular tribute to the Tang emperor.
Government & the Economy under the Tang Dynasty
Later Tang rulers, like Empress Wu Zhao, went back to the Han system of uniform government throughout China. They rebuilt the bureaucracy and enlarged the civil service system to recruit talented officials trained in Confucian philosophy. They also set up schools to prepare male students for the exams and developed a flexible law code.

Under a system of land reform, the Tang emperors redistributed land to peasants. This policy weakened the power of large landowners. At the same time, it increased government revenues, since the peasants could now pay taxes.
Decline of the Tang Dynasty
The Tang Dynasty eventually weakened. Eventually, Tang emperors lost China’s northwestern territories in Central Asia to the Arabs. Government corruption, heavy taxes, drought, famine, and rebellions all contributed to the end of the Tang Dynasty.
THE SONG DYNASTY
In 960CE, Zhao Kuangyin reunited much of China and founded the Song Dynasty. The Song ruled for 319 years, a little longer than the Tang. However, the Song controlled less territory than the Tang had. The Song faced the constant threat of invaders in the north. In the 1100’s, the struggling Song retreated south of the Huang He River. There, the Song ruled for another 150 years from their new capital at Hangzhou.
The Song Dynasty was a golden age. Chinese wealth and culture dominated East Asia. The economy expanded. The center of farming shifted from wheat-growing in the north to rice paddies on the Yangzi River in the south. By growing these new strains of rice with improved irrigation methods, peasants were able to produce two rice crops each year. The rise in productivity created surpluses, allowing more people to pursue trade, learning, and the arts.
Under the Song, foreign trade flourished. Merchants arrived by land and by sea from India, Persia, and the Middle East. The Chinese built better ships, and their merchants carried goods to Southeast Asia in exchange for spices and other items. The Song were found to trade porcelain, and eventually the government started using paper money.
Women in Song Dynasty Times
Women had a higher status in Tang times than they did in Song times. At home, women were called upon to run family affairs. Women joined their husband’s family upon marriage, and with their mother-in-law, they managed the family finances, discipline, and servants. Still, within families, boys were valued more highly than girls were. Women’s lower position was reinforced in late Song times with the custom of footbinding. Footbinding is a practice in which the feet of young girls were bound with long strips of cloth, producing a lily-shaped foot about half the size of a foot that was allowed to grow normally. Tiny feet and a stilted walk because a symbol of female nobility and beauty. It was very painful, yet the custom survived because parents feared that a daughter with large feet would be unable to find a husband. Not every girl in China had her feet bound. Peasants who relied on their daughters for field labor did not accept it.

If a local government wants to lower taxes, how would it need to balance its budget?

by increasing public goods and services
by reducing public goods and services
by agreeing to go into debt
by requesting a loan from a federal bank

Answers

Answer:

by reducing public goods and services

Explanation:

If a local government wants to lower taxes, it would need to balance its budget by reducing public goods and services, as taxes are the primary source of revenue for the government. By lowering taxes, the government is reducing its revenue, which means it needs to reduce its expenditures to balance the budget.

Increasing public goods and services would have the opposite effect, as it would require more spending and increase the budget deficit. Going into debt or requesting a loan from a federal bank may provide temporary relief, but it would not be a sustainable solution in the long run, as it would increase the government's debt and interest payments.

Therefore, the most effective way for a local government to lower taxes while balancing its budget would be to reduce public goods and services, while still providing essential services and maintaining a healthy level of government investment in the community.
