Which of the following is produced when sugar is processed in an animal cell

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Carbon dioxide

Explanation:

Glycolysis which is the breakdown of sugar in living things, is a metabolic process that helps to release energy. Pyruvate is a product of this process that involves ten steps. After glycolysis has occurred, pyruvate is moved to the cellular powerhouse (the mitochondria) in the presence of oxygen.

There, carbon dioxide is extracted from pyruvate and acetyl coenzyme A is generated. This shows that carbon dioxide is produced when sugar is processed in animal cells.

TWO PARTS:
1. of the MSW generated in 2017, 61 million tonnes was recycled and 24 million tonnes was composted. what percentage of the total MSW generated was either recycled or composed?

2. a further 31 million tonnes of MSW was combusted for energy recovery. what percentage of MSW actually went to landfill in 2017?

Answers

1. The MSW generated in 2017, 61 million tons was recycled and 24 million tons was composted and approximately 22.41% of the MSW generated in 2017 went to landfill.

2.The 31 million tons of MSW was combusted for energy recovery and approximately 22.41% of the MSW generated in 2017 went to landfill.

To solve these questions, we need to calculate the total amount of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generated in 2017 and then determine the percentages of recycling, composting, energy recovery, and landfill disposal.

1. To calculate the percentage of MSW that was either recycled or composted:

Total MSW generated = 61 million tonnes (recycled) + 24 million tonnes (composted)

Total MSW generated = 85 million tonnes

Percentage of MSW recycled or composted:

  ((61 million tonnes + 24 million tonnes) / 85 million tonnes) * 100 = 85.88%

Therefore, approximately 85.88% of the total MSW generated was either recycled or composted.

2. To calculate the percentage of MSW that went to landfill in 2017:

Total MSW disposed = 85 million tonnes (recycled and composted) + 31 million tonnes (combusted for energy recovery)

Total MSW disposed = 116 million tonnes

Percentage of MSW sent to landfill:

  ((116 million tonnes - (61 million tonnes + 24 million tonnes + 31 million tonnes)) / 116 million tonnes) * 100 = 22.41%

Therefore, approximately 22.41% of the MSW generated in 2017 went to landfill.

It's worth noting that the calculations assume that all the recycled, composted, and combusted waste is diverted from landfill disposal.

However, in practice, there might be cases where a small portion of the recycled or composted waste still ends up in landfills. The percentages provided give a general understanding of the waste management practices but might not account for all nuances in waste disposal.

The human population started to rise significantly around 1800 BC due to increased farming and the rise of cities and towns. Farming provided a steady food supply, allowing people to settle in villages. The dramatic population increase around 1800 AD can be attributed to improved healthcare, including the development of vaccines and antibiotics, and the Industrial Revolution, which shifted power sources from humans to fossil fuels.

The Industrial Revolution and the Green Revolution are connected in several ways:

a) Both revolutions led to increased productivity, allowing more people to be supported with the same resources.

b) The construction of dams increased access to water for crop irrigation, enabling agriculture to expand and support larger populations.

c) Genetic engineering played a role in both revolutions, with the Green Revolution focusing on improving crops through the selection of certain genetic traits.

d) Agricultural machinery, powered by fossil fuels, became more prevalent during the Industrial Revolution and continued to advance during the Green Revolution, increasing efficiency in plowing, fertilizing, picking, and transporting crops.

e) Both revolutions saw the increased use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides, which maximized crop production on a given amount of agricultural land, supporting a growing population.

PLEASE HELP ASAP 25 POINTS!!! Explain each of the five theories of emotion (James-Lange, Cannon-Bard, Schachter-Singer two-factor theory, Zajonc and LeDoux, and Lazarus) discussed in the text.

Answers

Answer:

The James-Lang theory states that our experiences of emotion is our awareness of our physiological responses to emotion-arousing stimuli, meaning that your body does certain thing which is then followed by an emotion. For example, your heart racing, and body shaking would be followed by a sudden rush of fear.

The Cannon-Bard theory states that an emotion arousing stimulus simultaneously triggers a physiological response and the subjective experience of an emotion. Disagreeing with the James-Lang theory, the Cannon-Bard suggests that the feeling of fear does not cause your heart rate to increase but your heart rate increasing, does not evoke a feeling of fear, rather, these are both separate occurrences that happen simultaneously.

The two-factor theory states that to experience emotion, you must be physically aroused and cognitively label the arousal. This means that in order to feel an emotion you have to be consciously aware of the stimuli provoking and causing the emotion.

The Zajonc, LeDoux, and Lazarus theory states that some emotions can occur instantly with out conscious appraisal.

2.1. Identify 3 current human rights violations to living in a safe and healthy way
in South Africa.
(3x1=3)

Answers

Three current human rights violations to living safely and healthily in South Africa are:

Gender-Based Violence (GBV): South Africa faces a pervasive problem of gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and femicide. Women and girls are particularly vulnerable to these violations, which have severe physical, psychological, and social consequences. GBV undermines the right to live free from violence and poses a significant barrier to a safe and healthy life for many in South Africa.

Access to Healthcare: Despite constitutional guarantees of the right to healthcare, South Africa faces challenges in ensuring equal and adequate access to healthcare services. Limited resources, unequal distribution of healthcare facilities, and socioeconomic disparities contribute to barriers to accessing quality healthcare, particularly for marginalized communities. The lack of accessible healthcare undermines the right to health and hinders individuals' ability to live a safe and healthy life.

Lack of Adequate Housing: Many South Africans face inadequate housing conditions, including informal settlements, shacks, and overcrowded living spaces. Lack of access to adequate housing violates the right to live in a safe and healthy environment. Inadequate housing exacerbates health risks, such as diseases, poor sanitation, and limited access to clean water and basic amenities. This contributes to the cycle of poverty and compromises individuals' well-being.

These violations highlight the need for concerted efforts by the South African government, civil society organizations, and international partners to address gender-based violence, improve healthcare accessibility, and ensure adequate housing for all citizens. Upholding these human rights is crucial for creating a society where individuals can live in safety and enjoy their health.

Can someone please help me with the AP Lang & Comp Unit 6 progress check!

When I meet people, I always get some astonishment when they ask me where I am from. “Wyoming,” I answer. And more often than not, the response is, “No, where are you from, really?” or “Hmm, you don’t look like a typical Wyoming person.” Over the years, I am not sure of the response I am supposed to give, and usually, I just reply with, “Well, there are some brown people there.”

But what is a typical Wyoming person? When I think of Wyoming’s political identity, I know it is easy to make some quick judgments about its identity in general. Wyoming is 90 percent white. Wyoming is 0.8 percent Asian American. Wyoming is largely Republican. And conservative. I think we’ve all heard the drill before. And yet, Wyoming was the first state to have a woman governor, and in the case of my mother, they were the first state to elect someone to serve in a state legislature who was born in India.

In 1994, when my mom was elected, again, she had no Indians in her district. When she first ran, even I was a little doubtful that she’d win. She wore saris often. She has an accent. But she went door to door and talked to almost every house in her district. She campaigned on issues that were important to Wyoming people—and to her. And she won. After that, my feelings about Wyoming changed—as before I thought of the state as a little backward when it came to matters of diversity. I was only 19, and had just left Wyoming to go to college. I realized then that while your physical identity is something that people can’t help but take in, Wyoming people vote for people that have something to offer. Wyoming acknowledges ability and competence.

Wyoming has always been a state that has drawn immigrants to its open spaces. From pioneers from back East to Europeans, Latin Americans, and Asians. And Wyoming has always had an Asian population. As my friend who is a Wyoming historian told me, there were Chinese rail and mine workers, Japanese rail workers and beet farmers, and of course Heart Mountain brought in an influx of Japanese people. Today, many motels across the state are run by Indians from India.

Here in Laramie, walking across the University of Wyoming campus, you can hear bits of other languages being spoken, the Indian students play cricket in Prexy’s pasture, and the students who I teach, while largely from Wyoming, have a curiosity about other cultures and peoples that is genuine and true.

Since that day in 1994, I have always voted in Wyoming, and feel strongly about positions from school board to our senators. But that said, when I look at the Wyoming legislature, it’s hard to see much diversity representing the state. Out of the 90 legislators in the Senate and House, only five are of color. I know that number probably makes sense in a state where again, the population is more than 90 percent white.

People always talk about how so many young people leave the state once they graduate from high school. Many look to cities for more excitement, for a different experience. I think the same can be said of many minorities and people of color. Why live here when you can be somewhere with more diversity and with those cultural connections? I get that. But if Wyoming is going to be a more diverse place, people have to choose to live here. And I know I fall into that camp. I choose to live here because I can’t imagine anywhere else. I love the mountains. I love the posture of a lodgepole pine. I love the way the sun looks in the bright blue sky on a day that is minus 30 degrees. I love the quiet of the snow. I love the space.

Answers

To calculate the percent change in the total wind power capacity in the United States from 2000 to 2015, we can use the following formula:

Percent Change = (Final Value - Initial Value) / Initial Value * 100

Given:

Initial Value (2000) = 2540 MW

Final Value (2015) = 72,500 MW

Applying the formula:

Percent Change = (72,500 - 2540) / 2540 * 100

            = 69,960 / 2540 * 100

            ≈ 2757.48%

Therefore, the percent change in the total wind power capacity in the United States from 2000 to 2015 is approximately 2757.48%.
