which of the following indigenous american tribes impressed european settlers with an impressively large-scale irrigation system?

Answers

Answer 1

The indigenous American tribe that impressed European settlers with an impressively large-scale irrigation system was the Hohokam.

The Hohokam people were indigenous people of the Southwest United States who were well-known for their impressive irrigation systems. They lived in what is now present-day Arizona for over a millennium and were skilled farmers who cultivated crops such as maize, beans, and squash in the desert regions of the Southwest.

They are best known for their vast network of canals and irrigation systems, which allowed them to cultivate crops in the arid desert environment. The Hohokam people had a very sophisticated system of irrigation, which allowed them to produce a surplus of food and support a large population. Their canals were engineered to carry water for long distances, and they also used underground aqueducts to transport water to the fields.

They were able to create an extensive irrigation network in the Arizona desert by using their engineering skills to divert the waters of the Salt River and other water sources. The Hohokam people were able to irrigate up to 110,000 acres of land with their impressive irrigation system.

what aspect of the u.s. health care system results in lower life expectancy for any other global north nation?

Answers

The fragmented nature of the U.S. healthcare system, characterized by limited access, high costs, and disparities in coverage, contributes to lower life expectancy compared to other Global North nations.

The United States has a unique healthcare system that differs from the systems in other Global North nations, such as those in Europe, Canada, and Australia. One significant aspect of the U.S. system is its fragmentation, which leads to several factors that impact life expectancy.

Firstly, limited access to affordable health care coverage and services leaves many individuals without adequate care or preventive measures. This leads to undiagnosed or untreated conditions that can negatively impact life expectancy. Secondly, the high costs associated with health care in the U.S. result in financial barriers, causing some individuals to delay or forgo necessary medical care.

Lastly, the disparities in coverage and health outcomes based on socioeconomic factors contribute to the overall lower life expectancy in the United States compared to other Global North nations.

During this time, the ideas, art, and literature of classical civilizations such as Greece and Rome were rediscovered and celebrated. Two classical civilizations that were rediscovered during the Renaissance are as follows: Greece,Rome.

1. Greece:During the Renaissance, Greece was rediscovered in a number of ways. First, Italian scholars such as Petrarch and Boccaccio traveled to Greece to study the ancient manuscripts and learn about Greek philosophy and literature.

They were particularly interested in the works of Plato and Aristotle. Second, Greek manuscripts were brought to Italy by Greek scholars who fled the Ottoman Empire after it conquered Constantinople in 1453. These manuscripts were studied and translated into Latin, making them accessible to scholars throughout Europe.

Finally, ancient Greek art and architecture, such as the Parthenon in Athens, inspired artists and architects during the Renaissance, who sought to emulate the elegance and beauty of ancient Greece.

2. Rome:Rome was also rediscovered during the Renaissance. The city of Rome itself was a major focus of the Renaissance, as artists and architects such as Michelangelo, Raphael, and Bramante were commissioned to create new works of art and architecture for the city.

In addition, Roman ruins such as the Colosseum and the Forum were rediscovered, and scholars studied ancient Roman texts such as the works of Virgil and Cicero. Affirmative action refers to a set of policies and initiatives aimed at promoting equal opportunities for historically marginalized or underrepresented groups in various spheres of society, such as education, employment, and business. These programs emerged as a response to the legacy of systemic discrimination and inequality faced by racial and ethnic minorities, women, and other disadvantaged groups. The primary goal was to address the effects of past discrimination by actively seeking to level the playing field and create more equitable opportunities.

Affirmative action programs often involved measures such as preferential hiring or admission policies, targeted recruitment efforts, diversity training, and the establishment of minority-owned business initiatives. The intent was to increase representation and provide access to resources and opportunities for those who had been historically excluded or disadvantaged. While affirmative action programs were implemented with the intention of promoting equality and redressing past injustices, they have also been a subject of debate and controversy. Analyze Point of View Why did Northerners and Southerners disagree about the Kansas-Nebraska Act?

Answers

The Northerners and Southerners disagreed about the Kansas-Nebraska Act for several reasons.

1. Expansion of Slavery: One major point of disagreement was the issue of slavery. Northerners opposed the act because they believed it would lead to the expansion of slavery into new territories. They were concerned that this expansion would further entrench the institution of slavery and undermine their efforts to restrict its spread. 2. Popular Sovereignty: The Kansas-Nebraska Act introduced the concept of popular sovereignty, which allowed the residents of these territories to decide whether they would allow slavery within their borders. Northerners believed that this provision was unfair and violated the Missouri Compromise of 1820, which had prohibited slavery in territories north of the 36°30' parallel. They argued that the act undermined the previous compromise and opened the door for slavery to spread into free territories.

3. Political Power: Another point of disagreement was the political power struggle between the North and the South. Southerners supported the act because they saw it as an opportunity to expand their influence and maintain a balance of power in Congress. By allowing slavery in new territories, the South aimed to strengthen its political representation and protect its interests. 4. Sectional Tensions: The Kansas-Nebraska Act exacerbated the already existing sectional tensions between the North and the South. The act was seen as favoring the interests of the South, which further deepened the divide between the two regions. This disagreement ultimately contributed to the growing conflict that would lead to the Civil War.

In summary, the Northerners and Southerners disagreed about the Kansas-Nebraska Act primarily due to the expansion of slavery, the introduction of popular sovereignty, the political power struggle, and the exacerbation of sectional tensions. These disagreements highlighted the fundamental differences in values and interests between the North and the South, ultimately leading to increased tensions and contributing to the onset of the Civil War.

Answers

The Portuguese determined that the most profitable way to utilize Africa was through the establishment of trading posts along the African coast, monopolizing the trade in valuable goods such as gold, spices, and slaves.

The Portuguese exploration and colonization of Africa in the 15th and 16th centuries aimed to maximize their economic gains. They recognized that the most profitable approach was to establish trading posts along the African coast. By doing so, the Portuguese could control and monopolize the trade of highly sought-after goods, including gold, spices, and slaves.

The Portuguese trading posts served as strategic bases where they could secure trade routes, establish commercial networks, and facilitate the exchange of goods. These posts enabled the Portuguese to establish economic dominance and exert control over the valuable resources found in various African regions. Additionally, the Portuguese exploited the labor force by engaging in the transatlantic slave trade, which further contributed to their economic prosperity.

Through their systematic establishment of trading posts, the Portuguese effectively utilized Africa as a lucrative source of wealth and commodities. Their dominance in African trade played a significant role in the broader context of European colonization and the expansion of global trade networks during the Age of Exploration.

Similarly, the Assyrian Empire developed sophisticated military technology that enabled it to conquer and rule over a vast empire that stretched from Egypt to Persia. Furthermore, the rise of large-scale empires in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Near East, and Asia was facilitated by a range of transformations such as the emergence of new political systems, the expansion of trade networks, and the development of new technologies. Similarly, the Mauryan Empire was founded by Chandragupta Maurya, who established a vast network of roads and canals, standardized weights and measures, and promoted trade and agriculture. Finally, the Qin Dynasty was founded by Qin Shi Huangdi, who unified China under his rule and implemented numerous administrative, military, and cultural reforms.

One result of the Age of Enlightenment was the establishment of republics. How did this form of government differ from the pure democracy practiced in classical Greece?

Answers

Answer:

The republic allows leaders to be chosen who represent the people in political decisions. The democracy established in ancient Greece, on the other hand, allowed political decisions to be taken jointly by all Greek male citizens.

Explanation:

Although the republics use democracy to manage their governments, that democracy is quite different from what was established in ancient Greece.

In a republic the people represent the sovereign power of the country, however the people are not part of the political decisions of the country, but choose representatives, leaders who will meet and discuss among themselves what should or should not be done within the country's political environment.

The democracy established in ancient Greece also had the people as the sovereign power of the region, however there was no choice of representatives and all Greek men, not enslaved, had the right to participate in the meetings established for political decision-making.

John Wereat
John Wereat served Georgia in a variety of official capacities during and after the American Revolution. He is perhaps best known for his attempt to thwart the Yazoo land fraud.
Wereat was born in Road, Somerset, England, around 1733. Shortly before immigrating to America in 1759, he married Hannah Wilkinson. They had one child, Ann ("Nancy"). After his arrival in Georgia, Wereat established himself as a merchant-planter and, subsequently, as a dedicated public servant in his adopted state.
In the early years of the American Revolution, Wereat was a member of the Provincial Congress and the Council of Safety. From 1776 through the end of the war he served as Georgia’s Continental agent, representing the state in dealings with Congress. Wereat also served briefly as de facto governor of Georgia in 1779, when Savannah was in British hands and the constitutionally elected government was in disarray. Taken prisoner in Augusta in 1780, he was sent to Charleston, South Carolina, by the British and remained there until his release a year later.
Between 1782 and 1793, Wereat served as state auditor, helping to extricate Georgia from the financial morass created by the Revolution. In December 1787 he presided over the convention that unanimously ratified the new Federal Constitution. From 1790 to 1793 Wereat also represented Georgia in settling outstanding claims against the United States.
Wereat’s final service to Georgia came in 1795, when he fought unsuccessfully to prevent the Yazoo land fraud. When the legislature rejected his attempt to purchase part of the state’s western territory on behalf of three Pennsylvania acquaintances, Wereat and several Georgia allies organized the Georgia Union Company to frustrate the corrupt Yazoo purchasers. The company attempted to acquire all of the western lands, but to no avail. As a member of the 1795 state constitutional convention, Wereat helped ensure that anti-Yazoo petitions would be sent to the next session of the legislature. Using these petitions and other evidence of corruption, the legislators rescinded the sale.
