The use of the epic simile in this excerpt helps the reader understand that the Cyclops only has one eye. how brutal Odysseus and his men are. the size of the wooden spear. how hot the spear actually is.
And the answer you need my dear friend is: D

Answer:
(Hope this helps can I pls have brainlist (crown)☺️)
Explanation:
The amount of photons entering your eye determines the brightness. Oh, so each photon of a specific frequency has the same amount of energy, but photons of various wavelengths or frequencies have varying amounts of energy.
Brightness is a visual property that describes how a source seems to radiate or reflect light. In other words, brightness is the sensation evoked by a visual target's luminance. The perception is not proportional to brightness and is dependent on the context of the viewing environment (see White's illusion, for example).

question.
How would Auden most likely rewrite the following line(s) of the poem if
Brueghel's painting had depicted Icarus falling on to the land instead of in the
sea?
the expensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
O A. The line would remain unchanged.
OB. the expensive delicate ship could not have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
OC. the faraway delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
OD. the expensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something not quite amazing, a boy on the shore,
Option B. "the expensive delicate ship that must have seen Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky" refers to the painting Landscape with the Fall of Icarus by Pieter Brueghel the Elder.
If Brueghel's painting had depicted Icarus falling on land instead of in the sea, Auden would most likely rewrite the line as "the expensive delicate ship that must have seen Something not quite amazing, a boy on the shore." The line would be changed because the ship would not be able to see Icarus falling from the sky if he is falling on land. Instead, the ship would see Icarus on the shore, which is not as amazing as seeing a boy falling out of the sky.
This change would also shift the focus of the line from the ship to Icarus, which would alter the meaning of the line. The overall message of the poem is that human suffering and tragedy are often ignored or overlooked by the world around them. In the original line, the ship is depicted as being too preoccupied with something "amazing" to notice Icarus's fall.
However, in the revised line, the ship would not be able to witness Icarus's fall at all. This change would emphasize the idea that people often fail to notice or care about others' pain and suffering, even when it is right in front of them. Therefore the correct option is B

Read the speech "Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True" and consider the advertisement "The Opportunity of a Lifetime." Then, answer the question.
Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True
A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High
[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.
[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."
[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.
[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).
[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.
[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.

A company has to decide whether to invest money in the development of a microbiological product. The company's research director has that there is a 60% chance that a successful development could be achieved in 2 years. However, if the product had not been successfully developed at the end of this period, the company would abandon the project, which would lead to a loss in present-value terms of $ 3 million. (Present value is designed to take the company's time preference for money into account. The concept is explained in Chapter 8) In the event of a successful development, a decision would have to be made on the scale of production. The returns generated would depend on the level of sales which could be achieved over the period of the product's life. For simplicity, these have been catorized as either high or low. If the company opted for large-volume production and high sales were achieved, then net returns with a present-value of $6 million would be obtained. However, large-scale production followed by low sales would lead to net returns with a present value of only $1 million. In contrast, if the company decided to invest only small-scale production facilities then high sales would generate net returns with a present value if facilities then high sales would generate net returns with a present value of $4 million and low sales would generate net returns with a present value of $2 million. The company's marketing manager estimates that there is a 75% chance that high sales could be achieved.(a) Construct a decision tree to represent the company's decision problem. (b) Assuming that the companys objective is to maximize its expected returns, determine the policy that it should adopt. (c) There is some debate in the company about the probability that was estimated by the research diretor. Assuming that allo other elements if the problem remain the same, determine how low this probility would have ti be before the option of not developing the product should be chosen. (d) before the final decision us nade the company us taken iver by a bew owner, who has the utilities shown below for the sums of money involved in the decision. (The owner has no ointerest in other attributes which may be associated with the decision, such as developing a prestige product or maintaining employment.) (a) Decision tree should be constructed.
(b) Company should opt for large-scale production.
(c) Probability should be lower than 44.4% before not developing the product.
(d) The new owner's utility values may change the policy identified in (b) as they have different preferences for the sums of money involved in the decision.
(a) A decision tree can be constructed with two branches representing the decision to invest or not to invest in the microbiological product, and then two more branches for the possible outcomes of successful or unsuccessful development. The successful development branch can further split into two branches for large-scale or small-scale production, with their respective probabilities and net returns.
(b) To maximize expected returns, the company should invest in the product development as the expected net return of $2.8 million (0.66 + 0.41) is greater than the expected net loss of $1.2 million (0.60 + 0.43).
The optimal decision for scale of production is to choose large-scale production, as the expected net return of $4.8 million (0.756 + 0.251) is greater than the expected net return of $3 million (0.754 + 0.252) for small-scale production.
(c) If the probability of success in 2 years drops below 37.5%, the company should not invest in the product development as the expected net loss would exceed the expected net return.
(d) The new owner's utilities suggest that they have a risk-neutral preference and the policy identified in (b) would still be optimal as it maximizes expected net returns. However, if the new owner has a higher risk aversion, they may prefer to choose the option with less variability in net returns, such as small-scale production.
