There are no extra points for style. What does this sentence mean?

Answers

Answer 1

"There are no extra points for style" means that in a particular situation or task, additional credit or recognition will not be given for the way something is done or presented, but rather for its substance or effectiveness. In other words, the focus is on the results or the completion of the task, and not on the aesthetics or the way it is carried out.

This phrase is often used in contexts where the primary objective is to achieve a goal or complete a task, regardless of how it is done. For instance, in a competition or a work environment, the emphasis might be on meeting deadlines, achieving specific results, or solving a problem, rather than on the visual appeal, elegance, or creativity of the process. The statement suggests that, in such situations, concentrating on style might not be as important as focusing on the substance, since no extra credit or benefit will be awarded for the former.

Teddy to give David this lie? Is it ever okay to lie to someone?
Give two examples to defend your position.

Answers

It is usually regarded as unkind or cruel to lie to someone, but it can be a necessary evil in certain circumstances.

Lying is not always bad, and it can be acceptable in some circumstances when it is used for the greater good.

Aldiss' statement that lies are often more comforting than the truth in the book shows that the idea of lying as a means of consolation and comfort is a complex one. It is usually regarded as unkind or cruel to lie to someone, but it can be a necessary evil in certain circumstances.

Teddy giving David the lie that he is a real boy in the book may be seen as kind rather than cruel because it is not intended to deceive David but to reassure him. Teddy is aware that David is a robotic child and not a real human, but he still tells him that he is real to keep him happy.

Lying to someone may be acceptable under certain conditions. For example, a terminally ill patient's physician may tell them that they have a better chance of survival than they do to provide comfort. A student who has failed an exam may be given a better grade to boost their morale and prevent them from quitting school. fill in the blank. ___ refers to the meaning of words and sentences. select one: a. pragmatics b. syntax c. morphology d. semantics

Answers

The term that refers to the meaning of words and sentences is semantics. Therefore, the correct answer is option d.

Semantics is a fundamental subfield of linguistics that delves into the meaning of words, phrases, and sentences. It involves the study of how meanings are constructed, conveyed, and interpreted in different contexts. Semantics looks at how words can have multiple meanings and how context helps us determine which meaning is intended. For example, the word "bank" can refer to a financial institution or the side of a river, depending on the context in which it is used.

Effective communication is highly dependent on semantics. By understanding the meanings of words and how they are used in different contexts, speakers can convey their thoughts and ideas more accurately and listeners can interpret them correctly. In addition, semantics helps to explain why certain expressions or idioms are used in particular situations.

Pragmatics, on the other hand, studies language in context. It looks at how speakers use language to achieve different goals and how listeners interpret language in different situations. Pragmatics also looks at the role of non-verbal communication in language use.

Syntax is another subfield of linguistics that deals with the structure of sentences. It involves understanding how words are arranged in sentences and how grammatical rules apply to different types of sentences. Syntax helps to explain why certain sentences are grammatically correct while others are not.

Finally, morphology studies the structure and formation of words. It looks at how words are formed and how they can be modified to create new words. Morphology is particularly important in understanding the meanings of complex words and how they are formed.

Write a essay all about why the school system is outdated and is bad for students. Include a introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and conclusion. Must be a well written essay.

Answers

Answer:easy

Explanation:

The school system is outdated because the amount of work that is given to students and the policies the school board gives

Most schools give students a gross amount of work and want them done in 5- 7 days. In my opinion that's overwhelming for a majority of students. In school the school board claims to say they care for students' mental health but if they did why give students so much work to the point they break down and are no longer motivated to do anything. And getting an extension on an assignment won't happen so freely because a lot of teachers or parents will blame it on laziness and say that students aren't trying at all, just gaslighting. Making it seem like its the students fault.

Another reason the school system is outdated is because of bullying. All schools have a no bully tolerance policy. But does that ever stop bullying? No. Instead when anything negative is happening between or towards students staff members and the principals dismiss it as miss behavior and put the kid(s) in detention or suspend them. In most Casses this is a reasonable punishment. But these days bullying is much more severe and causes a lot of problems for student from depression, and poor grades, and the unthinkable. another thing I notice with schools and bullying is that they always post pone the problems. A child could write down a statement on the situation and the staff will push it to another day to deal with until they forget about it and they kid(s) that were in the wrong or were wronged have no repercussions and no justice. Adults continue to say "their kids they don't know better" but even if they don't you're supposed to teach them better.

Further more In schools they teach us everything BUT what we need to know, Like what type of people are out there in the world and what they do to kid(s) and humans in general. what are reoccurring problems happening in the world now. and reading things that are more interesting to the students so their more illiterate. Doing math problems but slowing down so students can grasp the idea. Doing more hands on learning in science. learning things we will really use in the future.

In conclusion this is why I think the school system is outdated. The little things like these keeps kids smart, and well-rounded about their surroundings. Because in the moment the school system is just recycling used material and shutting down students who don't matter are not seen. A long with that they are drowning students in non-interesting facts that they feel is irrelevant to them.

In this section of the video, the narrator explains that the Titanic is "not in great shape" today. The accompanying images and narration support this statement by showcasing the current state of the wreck. The video shows footage of the Titanic's bow, stern, and debris field, which reveal the extensive damage that has occurred over the years.

The footage reveals that the Titanic's bow has collapsed and is no longer recognizable as the front of the ship.

The stern, which was once standing upright, has also collapsed and is now lying on its side.

The narrator points out that the stern's collapse was due to the weight of the ship's massive engines pulling it down.

Additionally, the debris field surrounding the wreck shows the scattered remains of the ship's structure, which have been torn apart by ocean currents and the passage of time.
The narration also explains that the Titanic is deteriorating at an alarming rate due to the effects of corrosion, rust, and marine organisms.

The video shows examples of rust and marine life growing on the wreckage, further highlighting the extent of the ship's decay.
Overall, the combination of images and narration in this section of the video effectively supports the narrator's statement that the Titanic is "not in great shape" today.

The footage provides a clear and vivid depiction of the ship's current state, showing just how much the ship has deteriorated since it first sank over a century ago.
