A. Nixon Doctrine
B. Rapprochement
C. Détente
D. Glasnost

Answers

Answer:

Nixon Doctrine

Explanation:

The correct option is C. Finding ways to reach an agreement with the Soviet Union on critical issues due to relaxing tensions is referred to as Détente.

The term "détente" refers to a period of improved ties between the US and the USSR that started tentatively in 1971 and assumed a definite shape under President Richard M.

What caused the tension between the Soviet Union?

After World War II, disputes arose, primarily for political and economic dominance. The Soviet Union and the United States were the only countries left standing after World War II's devastation. Even when the countries didn't offer any advantages, people still wanted to take control of them.

The Nixon administration encouraged more communication with the Soviet leadership, including frequent summit meetings, discussions on arms control, and talks for other bilateral accords. Precisely translating to "relaxation of tension," detente was called in Russian razryadka.

Answers

Answer:

National defense is the priority job of the national government.

National defense is the only mandatory function of the national government. Most of the powers granted to Congress are permissive in nature. Congress is given certain authorities but not required by the Constitution to exercise them. For example, Article One, Section Eight gives Congress power to pass a bankruptcy code, but Congress actually did not enact bankruptcy laws until well into the 19th century.

But the Constitution does require the federal government to protect the nation. Article Four, Section Four states that the “United States shall guarantee to every State a republican form of government and shall protect each of them against invasion.” In other words, even if the federal government chose to exercise no other power, it must, under the Constitution, provide for the common defense.

National defense is exclusively the function of the national government. Under our Constitution, the states are generally sovereign, which means that the legitimate functions of government not specifically granted to the federal government are reserved to the states. But Article One, Section 10 does specifically prohibit the states, except with the consent of Congress, from keeping troops or warships in time of peace or engaging in war, the only exception being that states may act on their own if actually invaded. (This was necessary because, when the Constitution was written, primitive forms of communication and transportation meant that it could take weeks before Washington was even notified of an invasion.)

The great irony of our time is that the bigger the federal government has become, the less well it has performed its priority function of providing for the national defense. For example, Congress spent $787 billion in the “stimulus” bill last year, yet not a dime of it was spent on military procurement or modernization—despite the fact that America is in greater danger today than it has been at any time since Communism was threatening Europe in the late 1940s.

The Heritage Foundation has written extensively on the risks facing America and the state of our defenses. Here is a brief summary of the salient facts.

America has no strategy for victory in the war on terrorism—we’re not even calling it a war anymore—and the momentum has shifted to the terrorists. The outcome in Afghanistan is in doubt. If the terrorists succeed there, they can reconstitute their safe havens, plan further attacks on the United States, and threaten to gain control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.

The Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, a bipartisan commission with the status of the 9/11 Commission, found unanimously that the terrorists would “more likely than not” develop and use a weapon of mass destruction against a Western city by 2013. The Director of National Intelligence publicly agreed with that assessment.

The international regime for controlling nuclear weapons is broken. Pakistan has a substantial and growing nuclear arsenal. Its intelligence organization has been penetrated by the Islamists. Both North Korea and Iran are steadily increasing the range, payload, and accuracy of their ballistic missiles. No one seriously believes that the Iranians will voluntarily stop their nuclear program or that the West (except perhaps the Israelis) will use force to stop them.

According to our Pacific commander, China is increasing its military strength far more quickly than our intelligence predicted. The Chinese have already acquired an arsenal of advanced fighters and missiles that threatens to deny the American Navy access to the Taiwan Strait. They are building as many as five submarines per year and have established a modern submarine base on the island of Hainan. They have announced plans to build a variety of the ships necessary to field a blue water capability.

The American military is significantly weaker than it was at the end of the Cold War.  Most of our tankers are equally as old; they will not be replaced, if at all, until the 2030s. The Department of Defense wants to close our most modern cargo aircraft production line and will close our most sophisticated fighter line. The missile defense budget has been cut, and according to most reports, the Obama Administration will cut modernization budgets even further.

As important as it is for the federal government to restrain itself from interfering where it does not belong, it is equally important that the government perform its constitutionally mandated function of providing for the national defense.

America’s global influence is being checked and rolled back, and even the homeland is no longer safe from attack.

The situation can still be recovered, but only if our leaders understand their duty, regain their confidence, and reenergize the defense of freedom here and abroad.

how did the United states respond to the Soviet blockade of west Berlin in 1948

Answers

Answer:

The United States responded to the Berlin Blockade by giving air supply of food, medicines and other necessities to the residents of West Berlin for almost a year.

Explanation:

The Berlin Blockade was the refusal of the German government to allow any entry of people into West Berlin. This was done in an effort to curb the power of the Western Allies in some sectors of Berlin. This was a result of the British and American government's refusal to allow more voice to Russia on the issue of Germany's economic future. The Soviets blocked any form of transportation, be it railways, roadways, or even the canals, into West Berlin.

With the blockade of any transportation declared on June 24, 1948, the United States decided to respond to this move by arranging its own transportation. The Berlin Airlift began just two days after the declaration of the blockade when the Truman administration began the supply of food, water, and medicines by air support to the areas of West Berlin. This was how the United States responded to the blockade move of the Soviet Union. Which of the following is a characteristic of low-context culture?
Efficiency and speed are valued
Teamwork is preferred

Answers

A. Efficiency and speed are valued, is the characteristic of low-context culture

A characteristic of low-context culture is that efficiency and speed are valued. In low-context cultures, the focus is on direct and efficient communication, where information is conveyed in a straightforward and concise manner. People in these cultures prioritize getting things done quickly and effectively.

Efficiency is highly valued because it allows for optimal use of time and resources. Clear and concise communication enables individuals to exchange information rapidly, make decisions promptly, and take swift action. Low-context cultures emphasize productivity and achieving goals within specific timeframes.

Speed is important because it helps streamline processes, reduce delays, and ensure timely responses. In low-context cultures, time is seen as a valuable resource that should be utilized efficiently.

On the other hand, characteristics such as teamwork, excellence and completeness, and the importance of nonverbal elements are more commonly associated with other cultural contexts rather than low-context cultures. While these aspects may still hold value, they are not the primary focus in low-context cultures, where efficiency and speed take precedence in communication and task accomplishment. Therefore, Option A is correct.

In u.s constitution, the principle of democracy

Answers

Answer:

The principle of democracy is an important aspect of the United States Constitution. It refers to the idea that the government of the United States is based on the will of the people, and that the people have the right to participate in the decision-making processes of the government.

The principle of democracy is reflected in several provisions of the Constitution, including the provision that establishes the Congress (Article I, Section 1), which is composed of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House of Representatives is elected directly by the people, while the Senate is composed of two senators from each state, who are also elected by the people.

The Constitution also provides for the right to vote in federal elections, and it prohibits the states from imposing certain qualifications or restrictions on the right to vote (Article I, Section 2 and Section 4).

Finally, the Constitution establishes the principle of "one person, one vote," which requires that each person's vote be given equal weight in the election process (Reynolds v. Sims, 377 U.S. 533 (1964)). This principle helps to ensure that the government is responsive to the will of the people and that all citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives.

At the end of the platform, what is described as the "pressing issue of the campaign?

Answers

Answer:

Farmers as a group did not share in the general prosperity of the latter nineteenth century, and believed that they had been marked out as special victims of the new industrial system. Beginning in the 1870s, they attempted in a number of ways to mount an effective political campaign to rectify what they saw as the corruption of government and economic power, which they attributed to big businesses and railroads. In fact, much of the farmers' plight was due to factors unrelated to industrialization, such as fluctuations in international markets for corn and wheat. But perceptions are often more important than reality, and American farmers believed that the democratic system of their forebears was being subverted.

The most successful of the agrarian political movements was the People's Party, or the Populist Party, which after the 1892 presidential campaign appeared to have the strength to become a potent force in American politics. Its strength lay primarily in the southern and midwestern states, the agricultural heartland of the nation, although its leaders tried to reach out and attract eastern workers.

The People's Party platform of 1896 is notable for several reasons. First, it summed up two decades of resentment by farmers against a system that they believed ignored their needs and mercilessly exploited them. But it was not just big business to which they objected. The Populists worried that the alliance between business and government would destroy American democracy, and the various proposals they put forward had two aims. The goal was not just to relieve economic pressure on agriculture, but also to restore democracy by eliminating what the Populists saw as the corrupt and corrupting alliance between business and government.

Although considered radical at the time, many of these proposals, such as the direct election of senators and the income tax, would move into the political mainstream and be adopted over the next few decades. The platform in many ways set the reform agenda of the country during the years prior to World War I.

In the aftermath of the Stamp Act Congress and calls of resistance to British laws that were unjust, the delegates proclaimed their loyalty to the king of England.

About Stamp Act Congress

Stamp Act Congress which was a meeting on October 19, 1765 in New York City between representatives of the Thirteen Colonies. They discussed and demonstrated the Stamp Act recently passed by the British Parliament Overseas, which did not include any representatives from the colonies. This meeting was held in the building which was later named Federal Hall. This congress consisted of 9 of the 13 representatives of the colonies.

The colonies that did not send representatives were Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and New Hampshire. Representatives of New York were representatives of certain counties within the colony, not the colony itself.

In June 1765, a letter from the Massachusetts Assembly was sent to the assembly of representatives throughout the colony to "consider together the present problems of the colony". All representatives had served in the legislature of each colony and they pretended to be loyal to George III of Great Britain, the reigning king at that time.

When news of the delayed congress reached London, the Minister of Commerce was so shocked that he needed to write a letter to the King. The Minister of Commerce reported to the king that "this is a matter of utmost importance to the Kingdom and the legislature of the United Kingdom. and awaits consideration by Parliament." However, while Parliament was notified of its existence, the Stamp Act Congress was being implemented.
