an art gallery has a total of 11 paintings by a particular artist; of these, 5 are oil paintings
and 6 are watercolour paintings. the art gallery is asked to provide a special exhibition of
this artist's work but is restricted to showing only 5 paintings. find the number of combinations:

Answers

To find the number of combinations, we need to consider the different possibilities for selecting 5 paintings from the total of 11 available paintings.

There are two cases we need to consider:

Selecting all 5 paintings from the oil paintings (5 oil paintings and 0 watercolour paintings).

Selecting some oil paintings and some watercolour paintings.

Case 1:

Since there are only 5 oil paintings, we can choose all 5 oil paintings in one way.

Case 2:

To select a combination of oil and watercolour paintings, we can choose a certain number of oil paintings (ranging from 1 to 4) and fill the remaining slots with watercolour paintings.

For each possible number of oil paintings selected, we can calculate the number of combinations by multiplying the number of ways to choose that number of oil paintings with the number of ways to choose the remaining watercolour paintings.

The number of combinations for selecting 1 oil painting and 4 watercolour paintings can be calculated as follows:

Number of ways to choose 1 oil painting from 5: C(5, 1) = 5

Number of ways to choose 4 watercolour paintings from 6: C(6, 4) = 15

The number of combinations for selecting 2 oil paintings and 3 watercolour paintings can be calculated as follows:

Number of ways to choose 2 oil paintings from 5: C(5, 2) = 10

Number of ways to choose 3 watercolour paintings from 6: C(6, 3) = 20

Similarly, we can calculate the number of combinations for selecting 3, 4, and 5 oil paintings.

Finally, we add up the number of combinations from each case to get the total number of combinations:

Case 1: 1 combination

Case 2: C(5, 1) * C(6, 4) + C(5, 2) * C(6, 3) + C(5, 3) * C(6, 2) + C(5, 4) * C(6, 1) + C(5, 5) * C(6, 0)

Total number of combinations = 1 + C(5, 1) * C(6, 4) + C(5, 2) * C(6, 3) + C(5, 3) * C(6, 2) + C(5, 4) * C(6, 1) + C(5, 5) * C(6, 0)

Now we can calculate the total number of combinations:

Total number of combinations = 1 + 5 * 15 + 10 * 20 + 10 * 15 + 5 * 6 + 1 * 1

= 1 + 75 + 200 + 150 + 30 + 1

= 457

Therefore, there are 457 different combinations of 5 paintings that can be selected from the given collection of 11 paintings.

At the mouth of the first I discovered, I was surprised to find ferns which belonged to the coolest nooks of Wisconsin and northward, but soon observed that each cave rim has a zone of climate peculiar to itself, and it is always cool. This cave had an opening about ten feet in diameter, and twenty-five feet perpendicular depth. A strong cold wind issued from it and I could hear the sounds of running water. A long pole was set against its walls as if intended for a ladder, but in some places it was slippery and smooth as a mast and would test the climbing powers of a monkey. The walls and rim of this natural reservoir were finely carved and flowered."

f United View question in a popup 32 Section Exercise 31 Using Chebyshev's theorem, solve these problems for a distribution with a mean of 47 and a standard deviation of 13. Round k to at least 2 decimal places and final answers to at least one decimal place if needed. Part 1 of 2 At least % of the values will fall between 8 and 86. Part 2 of 2 At least % of the values will fall between 13 and 81. ellook 分民网 山西

Answers

Chebyshev's theorem states that, for any given data set, a minimum fraction of values lie within a certain number of standard deviations from the mean.

Let's apply this to a normal distribution with a mean of 47 and a standard deviation of 13.1. At least % of the values will fall between 8 and 86.

We'll begin by calculating k:k = (86-47)/13 = 3

Thus, according to Chebyshev's theorem,

at least 1 - 1/k^2 = 1 - 1/9 = 8/9 (about 88.89%) of the values lie within three standard deviations of the mean.

This means that at least 88.89% of the values fall between 47 - 3(13) = 8 and 47 + 3(13) = 86.

Therefore, at least 88.89% of the values will fall between 8 and 86.2.

At least % of the values will fall between 13 and 81.

We'll begin by calculating k:k = (81-47)/13 = 2.62

Thus, according to Chebyshev's theorem, at least 1 - 1/k^2 = 1 - 1/6.86 ≈ 85.5% of the values lie within 2.62 standard deviations of the mean. This means that at least 85.5% of the values fall between 47 - 2.62(13) ≈ 13 and 47 + 2.62(13) ≈ 81. Therefore, at least 85.5% of the values will fall between 13 and 81.

In the given passage, the speaker talks of "crude oil from Lake Maracaibo . . . to be made into gasoline, kerosene, and diesel oil." This means that the oil that they got from the lake is in its original state, before any process is done on it to change its properties. Why does Dickens use the phrase ‘knew rather less about skates than a Hindoo’ to show Mr Snodgrass’ unfamiliarity with skating?

Given that Shakespeare used it, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Charles Dickens. It could be a euphemism for the Devil or Old Nick, according to one theory. I cannot tell what the dickens his name is, so this suits (Merry Wives of Windsor III, ii).

Where does the phrase the Dickens come from?

According to word historians, the term "dickens" is a euphemism for The Beast since it resembles the once popular term "devilkins."

Dickens is a euphemism for the word devil, probably via devilkins, and is more particularly a minced-oath. Shakespeare used the word "dickens" in the 1600 play "The Merry Wives of Windsor" when he said, "I cannot tell what the dickens his name is my husband had him of."

1. "A day wasted on others is not lost on oneself," said Charles Dickens. 2. "Have a heart which never hardens, a temper which never wears out, and a touch which never hurts."

Dickens spoke his last words when he was having a stroke at home. It was a response to Georgina, his sister-in-law, who had suggested sleeping down.

Which character from “Ruthless” is most morally similar to Arthur?

In "Ruthless," the main characters include Judy, Tina, Louise, Sylvia, and Lita. Judy is a housewife who will do anything to help her daughter Tina achieve her dream of becoming a Broadway star. Tina is a talented and ambitious young girl who is willing to use any means necessary to get ahead, including deceit and violence. Louise is Tina's rival for the lead role in the school play, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Sylvia is Judy's agent, who is willing to exploit Tina's talent for her own gain. Lita is Tina's grandmother, who encourages Tina's ruthless behavior.

"Ruthless" and "Button, Button" are two different stories with different themes and characters, making it difficult to draw direct comparisons between the characters' morals. However, I can provide some general information on the morals of the main characters in each story.

Arthur is initially hesitant, but he eventually agrees to push the button in order to improve his financial situation.
