Carpeting and Tile. i should start by admitting that as little as five years ago carpeted classrooms would have seemed too fanciful and expensive the carpeting then available would have been costly difficult to maintain and would have required frequent replacement now however because of improved materials the argument in favour of extensive carpeting seems a great deal more plausible new indoor-outdoor synthetics which are stain resistant fade resistant durable and inexpensive have made carpeting seem much less a luxury than a reasonable even desirable alternative to floor tiles there seem to be three central arguments in favour of carpeting first carpeting is attractive now admittedly modern technology has developed a whole variety of attractive tiles but even though tile may approach carpeting in terms of colour it still has a hard and unattractive texture carpeting on the other hand is colourful attractive to touch and comfortable to walk on It creates a wonderful atmosphere everyone would want to work in both in and out of the classroom and is the reason most people prefer to do their work sitting on the floor bright carpeting can easily make attractive an area that would otherwise seem spartan and sterile pay a visit to the general office of the united nations organization in geneva to experience this in short carpeting is more attractive than tile to look at and walk on the second argument in favour of carpeted classrooms is that carpeting serves a useful acoustical function of course the flexible backing and roughened texture of modern tiles make them far less noisy than those of just a few years ago both tiles and carpets have improved significantly carpeting however is a superior dampener of sound it cuts noise from crowded hallways absorbs annoying background noise in classrooms and makes busy space less noisy and therefore much more practical a final argument in favour of carpeting is that over a period of time carpeting is less expensive than tile certainly carpeting costs more than tile and does need eventual replacement but carpeting costs much less to maintain than tile which needs frequent washing waxing and dusting the new synthetic carpets resist stains and fading an ordinary vacuum cleaner will keep them in shape but the tiled floor unfortunately needs frequent scrubbing and waxing if it is not to look dull and yellow with accumulated wax this process is laborious and slow and in large institutions requires expensive scrubbing machines in short tile costs less than carpeting to install but if the cost of maintenance is considered carpeting becomes an economic alternative to tile therefore given the clear edge carpeting has over tile aesthetically and acoustically and given its apparent economic justification carpeting for classrooms seems completely sensible TASKS: 1. Punctuate this passage carefully. 2. Divide the passage into paragraphs (there are five). 3. Extract three topic sentences from the passage. 4. From the passage, copy out (a) a simple sentence (b) a compound sentence (c) a complex sentence (d) a compound-complex sentence. 5. Find one synonym and one antonym each for the following words as they are used in the passage: (i) fanciful (ii) plausible (iii) sterile (iv) certainly (v) synthetic (vi) install
1. Punctuated version of the passage: I should start by admitting that as little as five years ago, carpeted classrooms would have seemed too fanciful and expensive. The carpeting then available would have been costly, difficult to maintain, and would have required frequent replacement.
Now, however, because of improved materials, the argument in favor of extensive carpeting seems a great deal more plausible. New indoor-outdoor synthetics, which are stain-resistant, fade-resistant, durable, and inexpensive, have made carpeting seem much less a luxury than a reasonable, even desirable, alternative to floor tiles.
There seem to be three central arguments in favor of carpeting. First, carpeting is attractive. Now admittedly, modern technology has developed a whole variety of attractive tiles, but even though tile may approach carpeting in terms of color, it still has a hard and unattractive texture.
Carpeting, on the other hand, is colorful, attractive to touch, and comfortable to walk on. It creates a wonderful atmosphere everyone would want to work in, both in and out of the classroom, and is the reason most people prefer to do their work sitting on the floor. Bright carpeting can easily make attractive an area that would otherwise seem spartan and sterile.
Pay a visit to the general office of the United Nations organization in Geneva to experience this. In short, carpeting is more attractive than tile to look at and walk on. The second argument in favor of carpeted classrooms is that carpeting serves a useful acoustical function.
Of course, the flexible backing and roughened texture of modern tiles make them far less noisy than those of just a few years ago. Both tiles and carpets have improved significantly. Carpeting, however, is a superior dampener of sound.
This process is laborious and slow and, in large institutions, requires expensive scrubbing machines. In short, tile costs less than carpeting to install, but if the cost of maintenance is considered, carpeting becomes an economic alternative to tile. Therefore, given the clear edge carpeting has over tile aesthetically and acoustically and given its apparent economic justification, carpeting for classrooms seems completely sensible.
2. Paragraphs:Paragraph 1: I should start by admitting that as little as five years ago, carpeted classrooms would have seemed too fanciful and expensive.
Paragraph 2: There seem to be three central arguments in favor of carpeting.
Paragraph 3: The second argument in favor of carpeted classrooms is that carpeting serves a useful acoustical function.
Paragraph 4: A final argument in favor of carpeting is that, over a period of time, carpeting is less expensive than tile.
Paragraph 5: In short, tile costs less than carpeting to install, but if the cost of maintenance is considered, carpeting becomes an economic alternative to tile.
Therefore, given the clear edge carpeting has over tile aesthetically and acoustically and given its apparent economic justification, carpeting for classrooms seems completely sensible. 3. Three topic sentences from the passage: First, carpeting is attractive. Second, carpeting serves a useful acoustical function. Third, over a period of time, carpeting is less expensive than tile.
4. Examples of different sentence types: a. Simple sentence: The carpeting then available would have been costly, difficult to maintain, and would have required frequent replacement.
b. Compound sentence: New indoor-outdoor synthetics, which are stain-resistant, fade-resistant, durable, and inexpensive, have made carpeting seem much less a luxury than a reasonable, even desirable, alternative to floor tiles, and carpeting is more attractive than tile to look at and walk on.
c. Complex sentence: In short, tile costs less than carpeting to install, but if the cost of maintenance is considered, carpeting becomes an economic alternative to tile.
d. Compound-complex sentence: A final argument in favor of carpeting is that, over a period of time, carpeting is less expensive than tile, and the new synthetic carpets resist stains and fading, so an ordinary vacuum cleaner will keep them in shape, but the tiled floor, unfortunately, needs frequent scrubbing and waxing if it is not to look dull and yellow with accumulated wax, and this process is laborious and slow and, in large institutions, requires expensive scrubbing machines.
5. Synonyms and antonyms of specific words in the passage:i. Synonym for fanciful: Imaginative. Antonym for fanciful: Realistic. ii. Synonym for plausible: Reasonable. Antonym for plausible: Improbable. iii. Synonym for sterile: Antiseptic. Antonym for sterile: Fertile. iv. Synonym for certainly: Definitely. Antonym for certainly: Doubtfully. v. Synonym for synthetic: Artificial. Antonym for synthetic: Natural. vi. Synonym for install: Fix. Antonym for install: Uninstall.

‘i am alone and miserable; man will not associate with me; but one as deformed and horrible as myself would not deny herself to me. my companion must be of the same species and have the same defects. this being you must create.’
The excerpt you provided appears to be a quote from Mary Shelley's novel, "Frankenstein." These lines are spoken by the character Victor Frankenstein, who is contemplating the creation of a new being. In this passage,
Victor expresses his deep loneliness and despair. He believes that because he is rejected by society due to his deformities and "horrible" appearance, he would not be rejected by someone who shares his flaws. He sees the creation of a companion as a solution to his isolation, someone who would understand and accept him.
This quote highlights the theme of isolation and the desire for companionship that runs throughout the novel. Victor seeks to create a being who can empathize with his suffering and provide him with the companionship he yearns for, believing that only someone who shares his same "defects" can truly understand him.
Ultimately, this desire for companionship and the consequences of Victor's actions form a central part of the moral and ethical dilemmas explored in "Frankenstein."

Is anyone available to help me with my final draft for a short story? I turned in my first draft already, and my teacher said I needed to create a new paragraph for each text of the dialogue. Thank you :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As I turned my head to the morning sky, I felt the soft breeze of Favonius gently caress my cheek. I knew our harvesting crops would be plenty and bountiful this year. Mother would travel deep into the countrysides every month to tend to the human's crops. Her trips would sometimes take days and I wouldn't see her until a week later, but as the goddess of agriculture and crops, she was obligated to help the humans whenever they prayed to her or gave her offerings. I never complained about not seeing her much, I knew she valued her work greatly, and besides, I had friends in the sanctuary to congregate with every day. The ocean nymphs and I would usually sit by the groves and practice our literature and poetry to pass the time, and the Tree nymphs and I would always hold competitions to see who could create the most enchanting design for the gardens surrounding the sanctuary. Even though I had many friends, deep down I did wish mother would spend more time with me. As the afternoon neared, the nymphs and I prepared lunch, mother would be coming back today, and I wanted to make sure everything was clean and a proper meal was prepared to welcome her back. "Proserpina dear? Did you collect the roses from the garden for your mother?" I turned around to see Diana, with her silver hair and white eyes, she was my mother's most devoted follower. Diana was the goddess of wild animals and of the hunt. "Oh I must have forgotten," I said embarrassed. Diana was not someone to forget orders easily, she protected our hidden sanctuary from unsuspecting humans, and she did a good job at it too. "Make sure you collect those flowers, we've almost finished with the bouquets we are just missing the roses," She said quickly. Diana was always working, when I was young she told me women didn't need husbands because our work is something we should prioritize. By the time I got older, I knew all the rumors of what Diana did to men that she caught who secretly spied on her. Let us just say it didn't end well for them. I went to grab my shawl from my room when I overheard a faint conversation coming from the kitchen. Me being nosy wanted to know what they were talking about because my mom forbade me from ever leaving the sanctuary. Ther other nymphs could leave the sanctuary though, and when they came back, they would always tell me stories of enormous human cities and how they were plated in gold. And how the queens of those cities would dress in the finest fabrics from far away lands. I'd stay up all night listening to those stories. Mother told me that the humans were dirty creatures who should never be trusted, but I was always fascinated with their quaint villages and their construct way of living. It all seemed childish to my family because they too, were gods, but to me, it was the most interesting thing. I listened in on the quiet discussion the two nymphs were having without them knowing I was listening in on them. "The human king of the city Kórinthos proposed to the daughter of a young noble yesterday I heard, they had such a grand celebration, you could hear the music and their shouting from a mile away!" one of the nymphs exclaimed in an excited tone. Oh, how I wished to be free like the humans, to love someone for eternity, but mother would never let me, she wants me to follow in Diana's footsteps and become one of her maidens, which would mean I would have to swear by oath never to fall in love with a man ever. I greatly respected my mother's wishes because I didn't want to ruin my relationship with Diana, she was like an older sister to me, and the only other goddess in the sanctuary besides my mother and I. When I got to the garden I noticed that all the roses had wilted, and no fresh ones lay ready to pick. Unsatisfied, I let out a sigh and began to walk towards the garden near the outskirts of the sanctuaries lands. My mother told me never to leave the mainlands, and only go near the outskirts if I had my nymph friends with me, but I was too far from home already, and this would only take a few minutes. As I neared the outskirts, I saw a bush of roses, red like blood, and mature enough to be picked. I placed my hand at the bottom of a rose when I began to feel the ground tremble with a force so great, I fell down. There could only be one explanation to this force and I knew it had to be a god. I got quickly back on my feet and began to run back towards the house when the ground underneath me collapsed, I began to fall and screamed for my mother, and then everything went black.
