THE VOYAGES OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE
By Hugh Lofting
Chapter 1: The Cobbler's Son
My name was Tommy Stubbins, son of Jacob Stubbins, the cobbler of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh; and I was nine and a half years old. At that time Puddleby was only quite a small town. A river ran through the middle of it; and over this river there was a very old stone bridge, called Kingsbridge, which led you from the market-place on one side to the churchyard on the other.
Sailing-ships came up this river from the sea and anchored near the bridge. I used to go down and watch the sailors unloading the ships upon the river-wall. The sailors sang strange songs as they pulled upon the ropes; and I learned these songs by heart. And I would sit on the river-wall with my feet dangling over the water and sing with the men, pretending to myself that I too was a sailor.
For I longed always to sail away with those brave ships when they turned their backs on Puddleby Church and went creeping down the river again, across the wide lonely marshes to the sea. I longed to go with them out into the world to seek my fortune in foreign lands—Africa, India, China and Peru! When they got round the bend in the river and the water was hidden from view, you could still see their huge brown sails towering over the roofs of the town, moving onward slowly—like some gentle giants that walked among the houses without noise. What strange things would they have seen, I wondered, when next they came back to anchor at Kingsbridge! And, dreaming of the lands I had never seen, I'd sit on there, watching till they were out of sight.
Which of the following best summarizes the main point of the plot as presented in the excerpt of "The Cobbler's Son"? (6 points)
Tommy had little hope of escaping his quiet life.
Tommy learned strange songs from sailors in his youth.
Tommy hoped to live a life of adventure in his youth.

Poems:
- "Stopping by Woods on a

"I Wandered Lonely as a

Answer: In the sonnet, the speaker starts by telling the peruser where he is. He has come by the forest to partake in the magnificence of nature as the forest load up with snow. He utilizes straightforward and effortlessly grasped words. "Between the forest and frozen lake" (Frost 1015) ignite pictures of the rider on a desolate street with the forest somewhere far off on one side and the frozen lake on the other. In the speaker's end comment "However I have vows to keep,/And miles to go before I rest" (Frost 1016), it is apparent that despite the fact that the forest is convincing him to remain, he is constrained all the more so by his commitments and the requests of his life and those that society has put on him. The whole sonnet paints an exceptionally clear picture of the serene woods. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud", and Octavio Paz's "The Street" share comparable subjects in that they all investigate isolation and shrewdness. There is a fascinating difference inside this gathering of sonnets, particularly between the Frost and Wordsworth sonnets and Paz's outline. The initial two sonnets are delicate and straightforward in their tone, though the latter is very serious and troubling. Ice and Wordsworth put good implications behind the topics of their sonnets, while Paz's subject is for the most part negative. Every one of the three sonnets looks at what an individual could consider when they are distant from everyone else and whether that reflection may be a certifiable or discouraging experience.

Read the lines from "Girl Powdering Her Neck” by Cathy Song, then look at the artwork by Kitagawa Utamaro. Her hair is black with hints of red, the color of seaweed spread over rocks. Morning begins the ritual wheel of the body, the application of translucent skins. She practices pleasure: the pressure of three fingertips applying powder. Fingerprints of pollen some other hand will trace. The peach-dyed kimono patterned with maple leaves drifting across the silk, falls from right to left in a diagonal, revealing the nape of her neck and the curve of a shoulder like the slope of a hill set deep in snow in a country of huge white solemn birds. Her face appears in the mirror, a reflection in a winter pond, rising to meet itself. Which statement best compares the use of imagery and color in the poem and artwork to portray the woman? The artwork’s use of color presents a woman of vigor and action, while the poem does not. The poem portrays the woman as unrefined, while the painting presents her as cultured. what is meant by begs the question
"Begging the question" is a logical fallacy in which an argument is presented that assumes the conclusion is true without actually proving it. This fallacy is also known as circular reasoning or petitio principii.
When someone "begs the question," they are making an argument that relies on a premise that has not been proven or supported. For example, if someone argues that ghosts are real because they have seen a ghost, they are begging the question, as their argument is based on the unproven premise that ghosts exist.
Another example of begging the question might be: "John is trustworthy because he always tells the truth." This argument is circular, as it assumes that John always tells the truth without providing evidence to support this claim.
In essence, "begging the question" is a logical fallacy in which an argument is presented in a way that appears to be valid, but which is actually flawed because it relies on unproven or unsupported assumptions.

High-speed sync allows you to utilize your flash at shutter rates that are quicker than the typical sync speed of your camera. Because you can now utilize flash to freeze motion or provide more natural-looking light indoors, this expands your creative options.
What is High Speed Sync Photography? When employing a shutter speed quicker than your camera's native sync, high-speed sync (HSS) enables you to sync the light from a flash. We are aware that the native sync speed of the majority of DSLRs is 1/250th of a second. The camera can't sync with flash any faster than that. It's likely to have negative impacts. Overexposed pictures can be obtained by using a shutter speed that is faster than the native sync of your camera. On sometimes, they cause the image to have black bars across it. These are brought on by the sensor being only partially illuminated by the flash. The shutter curtains on the camera block the flash in these locations. This keeps the digital sensor from being exposed by the flash and results better photography.

Troy's immediate response was that he was providing for his family, and he did not have to be reminded of his obligation. Later in the play, he acknowledges that his affair with Alberta was a moment of weakness and foolishness, driven in part by his fear of growing old and unfulfilled.
The scene where Rose says "You take…and don’t even know nobody’s giving" comes after Troy confesses to Rose that he has been unfaithful with Alberta, a woman with whom he has been having an affair. The Sandia Mountains
Surrounding New Mexico’s largest city are some of the most majestic and awe-inspiring mountains in the Southwest. The Sandia Mountain range stretches only 17 miles. Its highest point, Sandia Crest, is just over 10,000 feet high. This point is two miles above sea level but only one mile above the city of Albuquerque.
The word sandia means “watermelon” in Spanish. The range received its name because of the deep reds, maroons, and pinks that make up its granite and limestone faces. These colors are especially striking at sunset. The westward face of the range is characterized by its rugged, sheer cliffs and large, rocky outgrowths. The eastward face slopes gradually and is covered in the green of pine and juniper trees.
The Sandia Mountains have many different attractions that draw tourists each year. One of these is the “Sandia Man” cave, first discovered and excavated in the 1930s. During its excavation, human tools and clothing were found, as well as the remains of a prehistoric mastodon. Evidence at the cave site dates human usage between nine and eleven thousand years ago, making this one of the oldest human habitats in North America.
Another attraction is the Sandia Peak Tramway. This tram system has two tram cars that run every 15 to 30 minutes. One car ascends the mountain, taking passengers to the top where they disembark. The other descends the mountain, bringing them back down. First opened in 1966, the cars hold a maximum of 55 passengers. During construction of the tram, thousands of helicopter flights lifted cables, workers, and materials to build the two towers to the mountaintop.
The total length of the tram system extends nearly three miles. The span that extends from the second tower to the peak is the third longest clear span in the world. A clear span is a "length of cable between supporting towers." The cars travel at a speed of 12 miles per hour and provide passengers with an unimpeded view of the city of Albuquerque, the Rio Grande, and even three extinct volcanoes.
Tram passengers are also able to see a wide variety of birds and animals native to the mountain’s ecosystem. As a passenger on the Sandia Peak Tramway, you might see golden eagles, Steller’s jays, ravens, and canyon wrens. You may also glimpse a few land animals like mule deer, black bears, and bobcats.
Refer to this paragraph from "The Sandia Mountains."

I hope that you will be able to attend the event and cheer me on. It would be great to see you and catch up with all the latest news from your school. Do let me know if you can make it, and I will arrange for your entry into the school.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
