Dr. Pringle studies niche partitioning and competition reduction among coexistent species in Africa.
He is interested in knowing the exact source of food of different herbivorous species. To do so, he is using the technique of DNA metabarcoding.
He collects fresh animals' dung and gets the indigested plant cells.
DNA is isolated, sequenced, and compared with the DNI of known species, which are a potential source of food for these animals.
Once he matches the cells' DNA with the corresponding plant species from the database, he can use this information to detail the animal's source of food.
The importance of getting fresh, undigested cells from the dung, is that
The animal's digestive enzymes have not broken the cell walls and digested the cell content. The dung environmental conditions such as pH, temperature, or microbiota have not affected the cell's DNA. a helper t cell response to a protein antigen requires the participation of antigen-presenting cells that express which types of molecules?
A helper T cell response to a protein antigen requires the participation of antigen-presenting cells (APCs) that express major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC II) molecules.
When a protein antigen is encountered by an APC, such as a dendritic cell, macrophage, or B cell, the antigen is internalized, processed, and presented on the cell surface in association with MHC II molecules.
MHC II molecules are responsible for presenting antigenic peptides to helper T cells. These MHC II-peptide complexes on the surface of the APC act as recognition signals for helper T cells.
Helper T cells have specific T cell receptors (TCRs) on their surface that can recognize and bind to the antigen-MHC II complex. This interaction between the TCR on the helper T cell and the antigen-MHC II complex on the APC is essential for initiating the helper T cell response.

In an experiment about enzyme and catalyst. If you grind the radish, you will get what?
Try this class experiment to detect the presence of enzymes as they catalyse the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide
Enzymes are biological catalysts which increase the speed of a chemical reaction. They are large protein molecules and are very specific to certain reactions. Hydrogen peroxide decomposes slowly in light to produce oxygen and water. The enzyme catalase can speed up (catalyse) this reaction.
In this practical, students investigate the presence of enzymes in liver, potato and celery by detecting the oxygen gas produced when hydrogen peroxide decomposes. The experiment should take no more than 20–30 minutes.
Equipment
Apparatus
Eye protection
Conical flasks, 100 cm3, x3
Measuring cylinder, 25 cm3
Bunsen burner
Wooden splint
A bucket or bin for disposal of waste materials
Chemicals
Hydrogen peroxide solution, ‘5 volume’
Small pieces of the following (see note 4):
Liver
Potato
Celery
Health, safety and technical notes
Read our standard health and safety guidance.
Wear eye protection throughout. Students must be instructed NOT to taste or eat any of the foods used in the experiment.
Hydrogen peroxide solution, H2O2(aq) – see CLEAPSS Hazcard HC050 and CLEAPSS Recipe Book RB045. Hydrogen peroxide solution of ‘5 volume’ concentration is low hazard, but it will probably need to be prepared by dilution of a more concentrated solution which may be hazardous.
Only small samples of liver, potato and celery are required. These should be prepared for the lesson ready to be used by students. A disposal bin or bucket for used samples should be provided to avoid these being put down the sink.
Procedure
Measure 25 cm3 of hydrogen peroxide solution into each of three conical flasks.
At the same time, add a small piece of liver to the first flask, a small piece of potato to the second flask, and a small piece of celery to the third flask.
Hold a glowing splint in the neck of each flask.
Note the time taken before each glowing splint is relit by the evolved oxygen.
Dispose of all mixtures into the bucket or bin provided.
Teaching notes
Some vegetarian students may wish to opt out of handling liver samples, and this should be respected.
Before or after the experiment, the term enzyme will need to be introduced. The term may have been met previously in biological topics, but the notion that they act as catalysts and increase the rate of reactions may be new. Similarly their nature as large protein molecules whose catalytic activity can be very specific to certain chemical reactions may be unfamiliar. The name catalase for the enzyme present in all these foodstuffs can be introduced.
To show the similarity between enzymes and chemical catalysts, the teacher may wish to demonstrate (or ask the class to perform as part of the class experiment) the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide solution by manganese(IV) oxide (HARMFUL – see CLEAPSS Hazcard HC060).
If students have not performed the glowing splint test for oxygen for some time, they may need reminding of how to do so by a quick demonstration by the teacher.

anabolism vs catabolism What is difference?
Anabolism and catabolism are two opposing metabolic processes in living organisms. Anabolism is the process of building complex molecules from simpler ones, while catabolism is the process of breaking down complex molecules into simpler ones.
In anabolism, the body uses energy to synthesize complex molecules like proteins, nucleic acids, and polysaccharides from simpler molecules like amino acids, nucleotides, and monosaccharides. This process requires energy and is usually used for growth, repair, and maintenance of the body.
In catabolism, the body breaks down complex molecules like proteins, nucleic acids, and polysaccharides into simpler ones like amino acids, nucleotides, and monosaccharides. This process releases energy which can be used for various physiological functions like muscle contraction, cellular respiration, and body temperature regulation.

how would we know if a fossil was that of a eutherian mammal? a.all teeth except for the molars are replaced
Therian mammals, including marsupials and eutherians, may be identified and discriminated by the quantity, form, and replacement pattern of their teeth.
However, some early Mesozoic fossils with therian characteristics have been discovered in Mongolia, and these cannot be definitively assigned to one of the groups;
that is, we do not know which group of therian mammals they belong to, or whether they belong to another closely related group that has since become extinct.
The infant molars are replaced by teeth known as premolars (also known as bicuspids). A whole adult dentition consists of 32 teeth, 16 on top and 16 on bottom.
The primary dentition is replaced by permanent central incisors, lateral incisors, canines, and first and second premolars. The permanent premolars replace the primary molars, and the permanent molars erupt posterior to those.

5 difference between coral reef and mangrove ecosystem
Coral reefs are underwater structures made from calcium carbonate secreted by corals. Corals are colonies of tiny living animals found in marine waters that contain few nutrients. Most coral reefs are built from stony corals, which in turn consist of polyps that cluster the groups. Coral reefs flourish even though they are surrounded by ocean waters that provide nutrients. They are most commonly found at shallow depths in tropical waters, but deep water and cold water corals also exist on smaller scales in other areas.
Mangroves are tropical trees and shrubs that grow in inter tidal areas. They can also refer to the forest communities with their associated microorganisms(bacteria, fungi, algae) and fauna(crabs, shrimps and fish).Because they are exposed to extreme environmental factors of high salinity, alternating water saturation and desiccation, and anaerobic substrates. Mangroves is the only species of tree which flourishes in sea water. Coral reef and mangrove is very important to us so we need to nourish and take care of it. Because if this two will destroy we are the one who will suffer.

the orbital period of the planet with an average distance to the sun of 4.54 AU is approximately 3.32 million years.
How to calculate the orbital period? The orbital period of a planet is the time it takes for the planet to complete one orbit around the sun. This period depends on the distance between the planet and the sun and the mass of the sun. Kepler's third law of planetary motion provides a mathematical relationship between the orbital period of a planet, its distance from the sun, and the mass of the sun. The law states that the square of the period of a planet's orbit is proportional to the cube of its average distance from the sun. In other words, the equation for Kepler's third law is:
T^2 = (4π^2/GM) x r^3where T is the period of the planet's orbit, r is the distance between the planet and the sun, G is the gravitational constant, and M is the mass of the sun.
To calculate the orbital period of the planet with an average distance to the sun of 4.54 AU, we can use the equation for Kepler's third law. First, we need to convert the distance from AU to meters. One astronomical unit (AU) is equivalent to 149,597,870,700 meters. Therefore, the distance of the planet from the sun is:
r = 4.54 AU x 149,597,870,700 meters/AU = 6.794 x 10^11 metersNext, we need to calculate the mass of the sun. The mass of the sun is approximately 1.99 x 10^30 kg.
Substituting the values into Kepler's third law equation, we get:
T^2 = (4π^2/GM) x r^3T^2 = (4π^2/6.6743 x 10^-11 N(m/kg)^2 x 1.99 x 10^30 kg) x (6.794 x 10^11 meters)^3T^2 = 1.09 x 10^27T = √(1.09 x 10^27)T = 1.05 x 10^14 secondsFinally, we can convert the time from seconds to years by dividing by the number of seconds in a year (3.15 x 10^7 seconds):
T = 1.05 x 10^14 seconds / (3.15 x 10^7 seconds/year) = 3.32 x 10^6 years
Therefore, the orbital period of the planet with an average distance to the sun of 4.54 AU is approximately 3.32 million years.
