Answers

Answer:

In 1929 the Great Depression started because of the great New York Stock Exchange was crashing and in the 1930s unemployment and businesses started to crash. Without the New York Stock Exchange, happening money was not coming in and that resulted in people not being able to buy anything. With people not buying anything that then leads to a jurassic effect on everything. No stock exchange, no money, no money, no spending, no spending, no businesses, no businesses, no economy. The worst part was that the people of this time and the government didn't have much time to fix this or help at all, since this all happened in a span of 10 weeks. Every one out of four americans had to pick up and leave because of jobs being loss, housing being taken, and bussinesses and food disappering.

During the Great Depression President Franklin Roosevelt came up with "The New Deal". Once he came up with the 'New Deal' program and it was approved by congress, the 'New Deal' which provided $41.7 billion in funding for domestic programs like work relief for unemployed workers. The 'New Deal' program would help those who lost jobs, homes and everything else. This program was to help people who had nothing left and needed help to support themselves and their familes. As federal money was pouring into the recovery and relief efforts of the 1930s, GAO’s (Government  Accountability Office's) workload increased. With about 1,700 employees at the time, GAO soon found itself shorthanded and needed to hire more employees to process paperwork, such as vouchers. By 1939, our workforce nearly tripled to 5,000.

In this photo is shows that all they have is what they can carry and fit in there cars. They are going on the road to possibly find jobs and a "better place" even though it is the same accross the whole country. These two familes probably didn't have much in the first place, and once the Great Depression happened it took what they had and cut it in half or more. So now those familes only have a quarter of what they had before. Before the Great Depression people would struggle but not like how they were in the 1930s. Once the Stocks crashed and didn't have the same value to any value they were completely wipped out of money, resources and everything that made a community and economy run. People could hardly provide food let alone a house, a car, clothes shoes, and other basic needs for a person and a family.

Akhenaten was not liked by the people of Egypt during his reign as pharaoh because he forced them to change their religion from polytheistic to monotheistic. Describe the changes that he tried to make. Based on what you know about Egyptian religion, why do you think this would have been such a large change?

Answer: Akhenaten (pronounced /ˌækəˈnɑːtən/),[8] also spelled Echnaton,[9] Akhenaton,[3] Ikhnaton,[2] and Khuenaten[10][11] (Ancient Egyptian: ꜣḫ-n-jtn, meaning "Effective for the Aten"), was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh reigning c. 1353–1336[3] or 1351–1334 BC,[4] the tenth ruler of the Eighteenth Dynasty. Before the fifth year of his reign, he was known as Amenhotep IV (Ancient Egyptian: jmn-ḥtp, meaning "Amun is satisfied", Hellenized as Amenophis IV).

Atenism

Akhenaten is noted for abandoning Egypt's traditional polytheistic religion and introducing Atenism, worship centered on Aten. The views of Egyptologists differ whether Atenism should be considered as absolute monotheism, or whether it was monolatry, syncretism, or henotheism.[12][13] This culture shift away from traditional religion was not widely accepted. After his death, Akhenaten's monuments were dismantled and hidden, his statues were destroyed, and his name excluded from lists of rulers compiled by later pharaohs.[14] Traditional religious practice was gradually restored, notably under his close successor Tutankhamun, who changed his name from Tutankhaten early in his reign.[15] When some dozen years later rulers without clear rights of succession from the Eighteenth Dynasty founded a new dynasty, they discredited Akhenaten and his immediate successors, referring to Akhenaten himself as "the enemy" or "that criminal" in archival records.[16][17]

Akhenaten was all but lost to history until the late 19th century discovery of Amarna, or Akhetaten, the new capital city he built for the worship of Aten.[18] Furthermore, in 1907, a mummy that could be Akhenaten's was unearthed from the tomb KV55 in the Valley of the Kings by Edward R. Ayrton. Genetic testing has determined that the man buried in KV55 was Tutankhamun's father,[19] but its identification as Akhenaten has since been questioned.[6][7][20][21][22]

Akhenaten's rediscovery and Flinders Petrie's early excavations at Amarna sparked great public interest in the pharaoh and his queen Nefertiti. He has been described as "enigmatic", "mysterious", "revolutionary", "the greatest idealist of the world", and "the first individual in history", but also as a "heretic", "fanatic", "possibly insane", and "mad".[12][23][24][25][26] The interest comes from his connection with Tutankhamun, the unique style and high quality of the pictorial arts he patronized, and ongoing interest in the religion he attempted to establish.

The powers of governing…in the hands of the king…himself such an…enemy
to liberty…is he…a proper person to say to these colonies, "YOU SHALL MAKE
NO LAWS BUT WHAT I PLEASE."

Read the passage. What idea is the author trying to prove to the colonists?
A Colonists may not agree with him, but the king has the right to rule.
B Colonists should request that the king allow them representation.
C The king is violating the natural rights of the colonists.
D The king knows best how to govern the colonie

Answers

Answer: C. The king is violating the natural rights of the colonists.

Explanation:

Paine argues that placing the powers of governing solely in the hands of the king, who is an enemy of liberty, is unjust. By highlighting the king's authority to dictate laws without the consent or input of the colonists, Paine suggests that the king is violating the natural rights of the colonists to participate in their own governance. This supports the broader theme in Paine's pamphlet, Common Sense, which advocates for the idea of independence from British rule and the establishment of self-governance in the American colonies.

Based on information in the article, which best describes the difference between the child labor rates in Nepal and Mongolia?

A.Child labor rates have increased in Mongolia since 1990, but decreased in Nepal since 1990.

B.Child labor rates have increased in Mongolia since 1990, but stayed the same in Nepal since 1990.

C.Child labor rates have increased in Nepal since 1990, but decreased in Mongolia since 1990.

D.Child labor rates have increased in Nepal since 1990, but stayed the same in Mongolia since 1990.

In 2000, there were 127 million children working in Asia. By 2004, that number had fallen to 122 million. Officials are pleased that child labor rates have dropped, but they say the decline isn't happening fast enough.

Those numbers came from a recent report from the International Labor Organization (ILO). The report focused on South Asia, which includes Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and other nations. It concluded that despite the decrease in the number of working children ages five to 14, South Asia remains a child labor hot spot.

The report discussed child labor in several nations and identified Nepal as one of the worst offenders. As of 2004, almost 40 percent of Nepalese children aged 10 to 14 were working. Many continue to do strenuous physical labor in mines, quarries, and carpet factories. Still, even in Nepal, child labor rates are declining; they had been near 50 percent in 1990.

The Philippines has improved, but problems remain in some industries. Many Filipino children still work in fireworks production, deep-sea fishing, and mining. The country has a national action plan to change this.

"The [anti-child labor] laws are all there," said Filipino Undersecretary of Labor and Employment Manuel G. Imson. Imson says that the government is working with the police to enforce these laws.

In some cases, child labor has emerged where it was previously nonexistent. There were few or no child laborers in Mongolia until 1990; today, up to 10,000 children there work in gold, coal, and mineral mines. Kh. Ganbaatar, executive director of the Mongolian Employers' Federation, blames the problem on economic changes as well as on natural disasters. Several years ago, winter storms killed millions of livestock. This made it harder for families to maintain their traditional herding way of life. Many of these families were forced to send their children to work.

In fact, child labor often develops because area families cannot make ends meet and need extra income. In other cases, parents want to send their children to school but cannot afford the related fees.

"A large number of working poor means that we have a large number of people who are unable to support children [going] to school," said Panudda Boonpala, senior child labor specialist at the ILO.

In August, government representatives from nearly 40 countries as well as workers' and employers' organizations attended an ILO conference. Topics on their agenda included migration, competitiveness, productivity, and youth employment (child labor). At a session on youth employment, participants watched a video that showed children working at a gold mine in Mongolia.

The ILO says that it will try to end some of the worst forms of child labor within 10 years. Its officials point out that attitudes about working children have changed in Asia. This is contributing to the reduction in child labor rates.

"I think 10 years ago there was lots of denial," Panudda said. Still, she said, nations will not be able to end child labor unless they are willing to put a lot of effort and funding into the fight against it.

Bee Movie came out in theatres in 2007. The movie portrayed a small bee that could talk and wanted to become a pollinator bee. Once he graduated college, he decided that he did not like his current job at Honex Industries. He then left the hive and traveled to New York City. There he met a human woman and fell in love with her. Her name was Vanessa and she was a florist. What a coinkidink. He then discovers that honey is being sold at grocery stores so he decides he wants to sue the honey companies for bees to have the exclusive rights to honey production. He won the lawsuit by proving that they way harvest bees were treated was unfair. This caused bees to stop pollinating flowers and eventually all the flowers in the world were dying. Vanessa’s shop couldn’t sell any plants anymore because…show more content…

First example of this is a male bees role in the hive. In the movie it is shown that all bees work, both males and females. While this may seem like the perfect world, only female bees do any work in the real world. Male bees are only in the hives to mate with a Queen bee. In other words, they are normal boring males. They also do not have a stinger, so the part in the movie where a male stings a human is incorrect. A stinger, in real life, is also considered part of the female reproductive organs. So why would males have these in the movies? Probably to make them look tougher. Let’s face it though, girls are the tougher bees. Also, when it comes to the physical appearance of these bees, they can not talk or wear human clothing. That would just be silly. Bees also have compound eyes and six legs. The movie shows normal human eyes and only four legs. The last time i saw a bee they also did not have teeth or thumbs. I feel like the features that they do have help them to survive better in their environment and surrounds. Okay, time to stop picking apart a kids movie right?

(Douglas)

Which of the following quotes best expresses his viewpoint? Half-slave, half-free labor cannot, in my opinion, be sustained by this government indefinitely. Describe how the chosen quotation demonstrates Lincoln's viewpoint. According to his prediction, the only way the nation will "endure" or endure is if everyone enjoys their freedom and there are no opposing sides. What is a fact or event from history that supports Abraham Lincoln's viewpoint? Slavery was abolished when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, and it has remained so ever since. America is still around today.

Lincoln's point of view regarding the future of the country is that the United States cannot remain permanently divided between slave states and free states. He believes that the nation must either become all slave states or all free states, and he advocates for the eventual extinction of slavery through the non-extension of slavery into new territories.

Selected Quote: "A house divided against itself cannot stand."

Explanation: This quote from Lincoln's speech reflects his point of view on the future of the country. By referring to the nation as a "house divided against itself," Lincoln implies that the ongoing division between slave states and free states is unsustainable and poses a significant threat to the stability and unity of the United States. He is warning against the perpetuation of this division and suggesting that the country must ultimately decide on the future of slavery, either allowing it to spread further or limiting its expansion for eventual extinction.

Douglas's Point of View regarding the Constitution:

Douglas's point of view regarding the Constitution is that each territory should have the right to determine its stance on slavery through popular sovereignty, regardless of whether it aligns with the Dred Scott decision or not. He argues that the territories should be allowed to decide the slavery question for themselves, free from federal interference, and that they are not bound by the Dred Scott ruling.

Selected Quote: "It matters not what way the Supreme Court may hereafter decide as to the abstract question whether slavery may or may not go into a territory under the Constitution."

Explanation: This quote from Douglas's speech illustrates his point of view on the Constitution. He is asserting that the future decisions of the Supreme Court regarding slavery's expansion into territories should not dictate the territories' right to exercise popular sovereignty on the issue. Douglas believes that regardless of the Supreme Court's future rulings, the territories should have the authority to decide whether to allow or prohibit slavery based on the will of their residents, as enshrined in the principle of popular sovereignty.
