Nobody now remembers how the war started or what it was about, but it was a terrible time. So some of the sky animals and some of the ground animals had a meeting, and as nobody could recall what they were fighting each other for, it was agreed that a truce should be called, and peace declared.
For the sky dwellers, the heron was appointed to make the announcements, and for the ground animals, the hare would do this job, as he was able to get around the area very quickly. This was done the next morning, but as all animals settled down, realising they could now live in peace and rebuild their lives, some body found the body of Mr. Bat. He was the last victim of the war, and must have been killed late the previous day. All the flying animals were very upset, and they decided to organise a big burial for their friend. But as they were preparing his body for the funeral, one of the birds noticed that Mr. Bat had teeth in his mouth.
How was that possible? Flying animals don’t have teeth. They called a meeting, and they agreed that Bat can’t be one of them, as no other bird has teeth in his mouth. So they took bat’s body to the ground animals, and told them that as Mr. Bat was not a bird, it was their responsibility to give him a decent burial.
The ground animals agreed to accept the body, but then, as they were preparing for the burial, one of them shouted: “Wait a minute, this bat may have teeth, but he definitely also has wings! How can he be one of us if he has wings?”
So now the ground animals had a meeting to consider the problem, and they decided that no ground animal can have wings, so therefore, Mr Bat can’t be regarded as one of them. So they too, refused to bury Mr Bat.
Poor Mr Bat, the flying animals refused to accept him because he has teeth, and the ground animals refused to accept him because he has wings. And that is why the bat is still flying around every night.

1 A very long time ago, there was a village perched at the top of a mountain. The surrounding plains were dry and endless, but the village was blessed with rains that kissed the mountain. After weeks without even a cloud in the sky the villagers became worried. All but one of their deep-water wells had dried up and soon there would be no water to drink.

Once the chatter quieted down, the wise elder walked to the center of the group and began, "People of my village! Our rains have not come this year. From this day on, only our youngest children and the oldest among us may have all the water they need. The rest of us must do with less."

Running to catch up, the warriors began to throw spears in order to stop them in their tracks. One spear punctured the bag. The criminals hurried faster but didn't notice that the water was slowly leaking from a hole in the water sack. When the warriors caught up, all the water had seeped from the bag.
9 The warriors returned the two men to the village. The villagers talked long into the night about punishments that would teach them a lesson. Early the next morning the thieves were led to the center of the village with their heads bowed in shame. The elder announced that they no longer could live among the people. Because the elder knew some magic, he turned the exiled men into animals. One became the first emu * and the other the first blue-tongued lizard. They were forced to leave the village for the rest of their lives and live in the wild.
10 The next day the villagers awakened to a wondrous sight. Across the plains where there was once dry land, small water holes now dotted the landscape. These water holes, or billabongs, had magically appeared where the water pouch leaked the day before. All around them grass, flowers, shrubs, and trees grew. The villagers could see birds swooping down to the billabongs. The villagers jumped with glee and ran down to the closest one. They were happy now because they realized there was enough water for everyone.

Everyday, when you look at your phone or even just outside at the people what do you notice? They all look different, maybe the same in some ways but different in most. But physical features are just the beginning because underneath we all are unique and special. Some people embrace their uniqueness, but a lot hide it away in fear of unacceptance. For example, the fight for equal rights in black citizens, even though they say that fight ended a long time ago we can't ignore the fact that they are still looked at differently. Why? Who knows, and no, not everyone is like this but that doesn't make it easier for them. Another example, over 28.9% of black citizens are living below the poverty threshold as opposed to 18% white americans. Isn't that crazy? This is evidence that supports the thought about black citizens not having equal rights.
I hope that this has opened your mind to this issue. I want equality for all and a place where no matter what your skin looks like, where you were raised and even what happened long long ago in the early stages of this nation, you can live happily and to the fullest. We as a community can do our part and make this community a free, accepting, and fair place for us all to live.
