During which mass extinction were around 75% of all living organisms killed off?.

Answers

Answer 1

The mass extinction were around 75% of all living organisms killed off is during the Permian-Triassic Extinction Event.

During the Permian-Triassic extinction event, approximately 75% of all living organisms, including many marine and terrestrial plants and animals, became extinct. The Permian-Triassic extinction event is the most significant mass extinction in history. It occurred about 251.9 million years ago, at the end of the Permian period, and lasted for a short period of 200,000 years.

The cause of this event is unknown, but it's thought that a series of catastrophic events, including volcanic eruptions and asteroid impacts, may have played a role.

Physical appearance is commonly used to distinguish different species. Here option D is the correct answer.

Different species are typically distinguished by a range of characteristics that allow them to be categorized and identified. While there are many different ways to classify and differentiate species, some of the most commonly used criteria include size, diet, physical appearance, and DNA.

Size is often used as a distinguishing characteristic because it can be easily measured and compared between individuals. For example, different species of animals may vary significantly in their average body size, allowing researchers to quickly identify them based on their physical dimensions.

Diet is another important factor, as different species may have unique feeding habits or require specific types of food to survive. By examining an organism's dietary preferences, scientists can gain insight into its biology and behavior, which can be used to distinguish it from other species.

Physical appearance is also commonly used to distinguish different species, as it can provide important clues about an organism's evolutionary history, ecological niche, and genetic makeup. For example, different species of birds may have distinct plumage patterns or beak shapes that allow them to be easily identified.

A nucleus must have less rest energy than the nucleons it is formed of if protons and neutrons (also known as nucleons) are bound together in it.

Why does the mass of the nucleus differ from the mass of its components?

The mass of the protons and neutrons that make up an atomic nucleus is always smaller than the nucleus' actual mass. Energy is released during the formation of a nucleus. The removal of this energy manifests as a decrease in total mass.

What causes a nucleus to be lighter?

Protons and neutrons comprise atomic nuclei (or nucleons). A nucleus' total mass is lower than the sum of the masses of its nucleons. According to Einstein's mass-energy connection, E=mc2, the mass lost when a composite nucleus is produced from nucleons is converted into energy.

DNA fingerprinting

A forensic method called DNA fingerprinting, commonly referred to as DNA profiling or genetic fingerprinting, is used to identify people based on their distinctive DNA sequences.

This method is based on the idea that every person's DNA is distinct, except for identical twins. To create a DNA fingerprint, biological samples from a crime scene are extracted, and DNA samples are then amplified and examined using methods like gel electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

The person whose DNA was found at the crime scene is next identified by comparing the resulting DNA banding pattern to known DNA samples from probable suspects or databases.

Answers

Rolling adhesion - movement through tissues

Tight binding - loose interaction of neutrophil with epithelium

Diapedesis - neutrophil squeezes between tight junctions

Migration - neutrophil comes to a stop

Extravasation is the process by which white blood cells, such as neutrophils, migrate from the bloodstream to the site of inflammation or infection. During extravasation, several distinct steps occur:

Rolling adhesion: Neutrophils initially roll along the endothelial lining of blood vessels due to weak interactions between selectins (adhesion molecules) on the endothelial cells and their ligands on the neutrophils. This rolling movement allows the neutrophils to survey the endothelial surface.

Tight binding: Following rolling adhesion, the neutrophils undergo a transition to tight binding. This step involves the activation of integrins on the neutrophil surface, which leads to stronger interactions with the endothelial cells.

Diapedesis: Once tightly bound, the neutrophils squeeze between the endothelial cells by squeezing through the tight junctions. This process is known as diapedesis or transmigration.

Migration: After diapedesis, the neutrophils come to a stop and migrate through the tissues towards the site of infection or inflammation, guided by chemotactic signals.

By understanding these steps, we can better comprehend how neutrophils navigate from the bloodstream to the affected tissues during the immune response.

a) What will happen to its mass?
b) The carrot was placed in 0.4 mol/dm 3 solution. Its mass did not change.
c) What does this tell us about the concentration of the carrot?
d) The carrot was placed in a concentrated solution. What will happen to its mass?

Answers

a) When a carrot is submerged in a diluted solution, water will osmosis into the carrot cells. As a result, the cells will become turgid and the carrot's mass will rise.

b) The carrot's inability to alter in mass when submerged in a 0.4 mol/dm3 solution shows that the solute concentration—which includes salts and sugars—within the carrot cells is also 0.4 mol/dm3. There is no net movement of water into or out of the cells at this concentration.

c) This indicates that the carrot and the 0.4 mol/dm3 solution have come to an equilibrium. At this concentration, the passage of water into and out of the cells is balanced, and there is no net gain or loss of water.

d) If the carrot is submerged in a concentrated solution, water will osmotically escape from the cells, plasmolyzing them. The mass of the carrot will shrink as a result.

OsmosisOsmosis is the transfer of water molecules from a region with a high concentration of water to a region with a low concentration of water through a membrane that is selectively permeable. Since a diluted solution contains more water molecules than carrot cells do, water will osmotically flow from the fluid into the cells. The carrot cells become turgid, which is another word for inflated and hard, as a result of this water inflow. The carrot's mass so grows as a result. The carrot's inertness in a 0.4 mol/dm3 solution shows that the solute concentration inside the cells of the carrot is also 0.4 mol/dm3. At this concentration, there is no net gain or loss of water since the flow of water into and out of the cells is balanced. This is due to the fact that the solute concentration in the carrot cells and the solution are the same. Isotonic describes this condition.

What process is responsible creating distinct sets of proteins in skin cell compared to brain cell?
A. DNA Replication
B. Base Titration
C. Gene Expression
D. DNA Mutation

Answers

The process responsible for creating distinct sets of proteins in skin cells compared to brain cells is gene expression. Gene expression is the process by which information in a gene is used to synthesize a functional protein.

While all cells in the body contain the same DNA, different cells express different sets of genes, leading to the production of unique proteins. The proteins present in skin cells are different from those present in brain cells because of the differences in gene expression. DNA is transcribed into RNA, which is then translated into a specific protein. The regulation of gene expression occurs at multiple levels, including transcriptional, post-transcriptional, translational, and post-translational levels. Therefore, the differential expression of genes in skin cells compared to brain cells leads to the production of distinct sets of proteins. DNA replication is not responsible for creating distinct sets of proteins in different cell types.

To Helen's surprise, the pregnant neighbor was Gladys Morrison, the person to whom the dealership would extend a job off the next morning. Helen said absolutely nothing to her friend about Gladys' employment inquiry or pending job offer, yet throughout the night, Helen pondered about the potential hire. The next morning, as Helen shared this development with Timmy and Joe before Gladys was contacted, all three discussed the potential consequences of hiring Gladys. Joe was astounded that Gladys had not informed them of her pregnancy. Timmy quickly told him that legally she did not have to tell them about it, and furthermore, an employment decision could not be based on her pregnancy. Helen observed that though legally this was true, from a practical standpoint the dealership could not afford to be without a sales manger for an extended period of time. Timmy agreed. He, too, was concerned about her potential absence as well as her potential inability to work for long periods under intense pressure, especially when they needed to reduce inventory. Helen also reminded them that although Gladys was clearly the best applicant, there were at least nine other applicants who would be suitable sales mangers.
