Answers

Answer:

Native peoples of America had no immunity to the diseases that European explorers and colonists brought with them. Diseases such as smallpox, influenza, measles, and even chicken pox proved deadly to American Indians. Europeans were used to these diseases, but Indian people had no resistance to them. The Native Americans were spiritually connected to the land and practiced culturally distinct methods to stay one with the land. The Europeans, on the other hand, saw the land as an unending right. They hoped to transform the tribes people into civilized Christians through their daily contacts. The Native Americans resented and resisted the colonists' attempts to change them. Their refusal to conform to European culture angered the colonists and hostilities soon broke out between the two groups.

Question:
To boost the morale of US troops, Gen. Douglas MacArthur implemented

Answers

To boost the morale of US troops, General Douglas MacArthur implemented several initiatives and strategies during his military career. Some of these included:

1. Personal visits and speeches: MacArthur frequently visited troops on the front lines, delivering inspiring speeches and expressing his appreciation for their sacrifices. His presence and words served to uplift the morale of the soldiers.

2. Awards and decorations: MacArthur emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding individual acts of bravery and exceptional service. He implemented programs to ensure that deserving soldiers received appropriate awards and decorations, which not only boosted their morale but also motivated others to perform commendable acts.

3. Rest and recreation programs: Recognizing the need for soldiers to have breaks from combat and a chance to relax, MacArthur implemented rest and recreation programs. These initiatives provided opportunities for soldiers to engage in recreational activities, enjoy entertainment, and spend time away from the intense pressures of war.

4. Welfare and support services: MacArthur prioritized the well-being of the troops by establishing welfare and support services. These services aimed to provide assistance with personal and family matters, including financial support, leave policies, and access to medical care. By addressing soldiers' needs and concerns, MacArthur sought to enhance their overall morale and motivation.

5. Training and preparation: MacArthur believed in the importance of thorough training and preparation for combat. By ensuring that troops were well-equipped, well-trained, and confident in their abilities, he aimed to instill a sense of readiness and determination, contributing to higher morale.

6. Communication and information dissemination: MacArthur understood the significance of keeping troops informed about the progress of the war, their objectives, and the larger strategic picture. Regular updates and communication channels were established to provide soldiers with a sense of purpose and a clear understanding of their mission.

It is important to note that while these are some of the measures MacArthur implemented to boost morale, his leadership style and decisions were not without controversy. His actions during the Korean War, particularly his disagreements with the Truman administration, led to his eventual removal from command.

Answers

Answer:

Expanding existing colonial empires

Explanation:

Social Darwinism takes place in neocolonialism or imperialism (not in the old models, but in contemporary imperialism).  It is a policy of expansion and political and economic dominance and is the result of the exploitation of colonized countries, due to the industrial demand of the emerging powers.  Thus, the purpose of social Darwinism was corroborated by the process of political and economic domination and legitimization of the emerging powers, the so-called neocolonialism.  As a consequence, the conquest of peoples was taking place, which conveyed the idea of a benefit to the conquered people.  Thus, they would be led by people capable of transforming and advancing their people. This gave the conqueror his superiority, since the superior nations had the mission to "civilize" the inferior ones.

The sinking of the Lusitania was a major factor in the United States' decision to enter World War I, as it outraged public opinion and led President Woodrow Wilson to demand an end to unrestricted submarine warfare.

The stock market crash did not so much cause the depression as help unleash a chain of events that exposed the longstanding vulnerabilities of the american economy. what are four of the long- and short-term factors that caused the great depression

Answers

Answer:

The Great Depression was a complex economic crisis that was caused by a combination of long-term and short-term factors. Here are four of them:

1. Overproduction and Underconsumption: During the 1920s, the United States experienced a period of rapid economic growth, which led to overproduction of goods and services. However, the purchasing power of consumers did not keep up with this expansion, leading to a surplus of goods and declining prices. This cycle of overproduction and underconsumption was a long-term factor that contributed to the Great Depression.

2. Stock Market Speculation: In the late 1920s, there was a significant increase in stock market speculation, fueled by easy credit and the belief that the stock market would continue to rise indefinitely. This speculation led to an artificial inflation of stock prices, which eventually resulted in a stock market crash on October 29, 1929. This event triggered the onset of the Great Depression, as investors lost confidence in the market and began selling their stocks en masse.

3. Banking Crisis: In the 1920s, banks made risky loans to investors who used the funds to buy stocks, leading to a stock market bubble. When the stock market crashed, banks lost a significant amount of money, causing many of them to fail. The collapse of the banking system led to a widespread loss of confidence in the financial system, which further worsened the economic situation.

4. Government Policies: In the early 1930s, the US government pursued policies that were not effective in addressing the economic crisis. For example, the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, which increased tariffs on imported goods, led to retaliatory tariffs from other countries, reducing international trade and worsening the depression. Additionally, the government did not take adequate measures to regulate the banking system or stimulate the economy through increased public spending, exacerbating the economic downturn.

Which characteristic is part of a market economy?
O having monopolies exist in every industry
O encouraging people to make their own goods
O using the government as the main producer of goods
O allowing competition among companies

Answers

In addition to D. allowing competition among companies, a market economy flourishes where market forces determine prices.

A market economy allows competition, private ownership, free enterprise, and self-interest to be at the driver's seat with the forces of demand and supply determining the prices of goods. The government does not play any significant roles except in regulation to ensure market efficiency.

Competition differentiates a market economy from all other economic systems, e.g. socialism and communism. In a market economy, monopolies are few. The government is not the producer of goods and services.

Thus, a characteristic of a market economy is competition.

The negotiating process for allocating the treasure between them was also laid out in their uncles will. They have three rounds by which to come to an agreement. In an odd (even) round, Todd(Steven) is required to propose an allocation. In response to a proposal, the other nephew can accept or reject it. If he accepts the proposal, the process is ended and the proposed allocation is made. If he rejects the proposal, the game moves to the next round. Failure to agree by the end of the third round means that all of the gold goes to charity, so none of it lands in the pockets of Todd and Steven. Furthermore, at the end of each round in which an agreement has not been reached, a fraction of1/5 the allotment of gold is given to charity. Thus, there are 4/5*100=80 pounds of gold at the beginning of round 2 (after an agreement was not reached in the first round) and only 4/5*80=64 pounds of gold at the beginning of round 3 (after an agreement was not reached in the first two rounds). In other words, there is a cost to delaying agreement and, of course, a cost to ever failing to agree. Each nephews payoff equals the number of pounds of gold he ends up with(there is no discounting), so neither cares about the other or about their uncles favorite charity. For notational purposes, assume that a proposal in round t is a value for x, where x is the amount of gold for Todd.
