describe how the adults in “Excerpt from Under the Persimmon Tree” contribute to the plot of that story
Explanation:
Under the Persimmon Tree" by Suzanne Fisher Staples is a novel that tells the story of two different women - Najmah, a young Afghan girl, and Nusrat, an American-born Afghan woman - whose lives are affected by the conflict in Afghanistan. In the novel, the adults play a crucial role in shaping the plot and influencing the lives of the two main characters.
Firstly, Najmah's father, Baba, contributes significantly to the plot by allowing Najmah to flee their village and seek refuge in the nearby city of Peshawar. His decision to send Najmah away is motivated by his desire to protect her from the violence and danger that has engulfed their village. Baba's actions set in motion a chain of events that shapes Najmah's fate and ultimately leads her to meet Nusrat.
Secondly, Nusrat's husband, Faiz, is a doctor who works with refugees in the Peshawar camps. His work is crucial to the plot as it allows Nusrat to meet and connect with Najmah, who is one of his patients. Through Faiz, Nusrat becomes involved in Najmah's story and develops a deep connection with her.
Thirdly, Nusrat's brother, Najeeb, is a member of the Taliban and plays a significant role in the conflict that drives the plot. Najeeb's actions have a direct impact on the lives of both Najmah and Nusrat, and his presence in the story highlights the complex and interconnected nature of the conflict in Afghanistan.
Finally, the other adults in the story - including the aid workers, the refugees in the camps, and the Taliban fighters - all contribute to the plot in various ways. Their actions, decisions, and beliefs shape the world in which Najmah and Nusrat live and help to create the narrative tension that drives the story forward.
Overall, the adults in "Under the Persimmon Tree" contribute significantly to the plot by shaping the world in which the characters live and influencing the events that occur. Their actions and decisions highlight the complex nature of the conflict in Afghanistan and help to create a rich and nuanced portrayal of life in a war zone.
My friend had concluded that if he took his language and culture out of his poetry, he stood a better chance of receiving a fellowship. He took out his native language, the poetic patois of our reality, the rich mixture of Spanish, English, pachuco and street talk which we know so well. In other words, he took the tortillas out of his poetry, which is to say he took the soul out of his poetry. At a neighborhood fair in Texas, somewhere between the German Oom-pah Sausage Stand and the Mexican Gorditas booth, I overheard a young man say to his friend, "I wish I had a heritage. Sometimes I feel—so lonely for one." And the tall American trees were dangling their thick branches right down over his head. Which best states how the structures of both excerpts support ideas about cultural diversity
Answer:
The two excerpts present words outside the English language, which reinforces the idea of cultural diversity.
Explanation:
Cultural diversity promotes social, ethnic and even linguistic wealth. This can be seen in the excerpts shown in the question above, where, in addition to reinforcing how the mixture between different cultures, gives a people a very comprehensive view of the world and leaves the language beautiful, rich, unpredictable and glowing. To take away the diversity of language is to leave it without shine, without soul. To reinforce this idea, the excerpts present words outside the English language.
The way that sentences help to show cultural diversity is: The two excerpts present words outside the English language, which reinforces the idea of cultural diversity.

What is the audiences final assessment of lady macbeth and why? Quotes too?
Answer:
The audience's final assessment of Lady Macbeth depends on their interpretation of the character and her actions throughout the play "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare.
Some may view Lady Macbeth as a ruthless and ambitious woman who stops at nothing to achieve her goals, even if it means committing murder and manipulating her husband. In Act 1, Scene 5, she famously says, "Look like th' innocent flower, but be the serpent under't" (1.5.70-71), showing her willingness to deceive and manipulate others to get what she wants.
Others may view Lady Macbeth as a tragic figure who is driven to madness by her own guilt and ambition. As she becomes more involved in the murders and deceit, she begins to suffer from hallucinations and sleepwalking, and eventually takes her own life. In Act 5, Scene 1, she says, "Here's the smell of the blood still: all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand" (5.1.35-36), indicating the extent to which the guilt of her actions has consumed her.
Ultimately, the audience's assessment of Lady Macbeth may depend on their own personal values and beliefs about the nature of ambition and guilt, and how they perceive the character's actions and motivations throughout the play.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True
A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High
[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.
[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."
[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.
[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).
[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.
[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.
What are two strategies the speaker uses to develop the point that voluntour opportunities are not legitimate ways to learn about other cultures?
