What would the tone of Walt Whitman's poem "I Hear America Singing" be if the people in the poem were speaking rather than singing?

Answers

Answer:

The answer is Less hopeful.

Explanation:

If the people in the poem "I hear America Singing" were speaking rather than singing, the tone will be less hopeful. The characters in the story were all singing as they go about with their works, showing that they are all Happy but if they were not singing and instead speaking, they will work everyday for the elite and be seen as people with no hope.

Furthermore, the poet wanted to present a Happy America, a joyous place hence the people in the poem were singing instead of speaking because when they sing, the tone becomes more hopeful but when they speak, it loses enthusiasm and becomes less hopeful.

"Restate the central idea of the text in your own words."
Mark this and return
Which best states what the teacher is asking students
to do?
O respond to the text
O copy the text
summarize the text
O paraphrase the text

Answers

The teacher is asking the students to (d) paraphrase the central idea of the text in their own words.

1. The teacher's instruction to the students is to restate the central idea of the text.

2. The students are expected to express the central idea using their own words, rather than copying the exact wording from the text.

3. The objective is not to respond to the text or copy it, but rather to convey the central idea in a different form.

4. Summarizing the text is one way to restate the central idea, but it may not capture the full essence of the original text.

5. Paraphrasing the text involves expressing the central idea in a different way while maintaining its core meaning.

6. By paraphrasing, students demonstrate their understanding of the central idea and their ability to reframe it using their own language.

7. The teacher's instruction aims to encourage critical thinking and expression, as well as to assess the students' comprehension of the text.

8. Paraphrasing helps students develop their writing skills and promotes originality in their work.

9. By paraphrasing the central idea, students can demonstrate their grasp of the text's main concept while avoiding plagiarism.

10. Therefore, the best option that describes what the teacher is asking the students to do is to paraphrase the text.

Thus, the correct option is d.

Read the passage from A Doll’s House Nora: [breathlessly]. Torvald—what was that letter? Helmer: Krogstad's dismissal. Nora: Call her back, Torvald! There is still time. Oh Torvald, call her back! Do it for my sake—for your own sake—for the children's sake! Do you hear me, Torvald? Call her back! You don't know what that letter can bring upon us. Helmer: It's too late. Nora: Yes, it's too late. Helmer: My dear Nora, I can forgive the anxiety you are in, although really it is an insult to me. It is, indeed. Isn't it an insult to think that I should be afraid of a starving quill-driver's vengeance? But I forgive you nevertheless, because it is such eloquent witness to your great love for me. [Takes her in his arms.] And that is as it should be, my own darling Nora. Come what will, you may be sure I shall have both courage and strength if they be needed. You will see I am man enough to take everything upon myself. Nora: [in a horror-stricken voice]. What do you mean by that? Helmer: Everything, I say— Nora: [recovering herself] You will never have to do that. Which evidence supports the inference that Nora is afraid of what Torvald will say if Krogstad tells him about her forgery? “Do it for my sake—for your own sake—for the children’s sake.” “You don’t know what that letter can bring upon us.” “Yes, it’s too late.” “You will never have to do that.”

SPENCER, North Carolina (Achieve3000, May 17, 2019). Don't ever let anyone tell you that young people can't do great things. Take it from Mrs. Fleming's 7th-grade class at North Rowan Middle School in North Carolina. This compassionate classroom crew is proof-positive that young people can make a difference in the lives of others. And activism can begin with four little words: How can we help?

So how do you go from sitting in a classroom to tackling the problems of the world? For Mrs. Fleming's class, it all started with learning about horrible global events that devastate individuals, families, and communities.

"We planned a trip to Washington, D.C., so that we could immerse ourselves in learning about the Holocaust and refugees," said Mrs. Fleming. "We [also] had the opportunity to participate in a Doctors Without Borders interactive refugee exhibit. We read Achieve3000 articles and novels about refugees, and we watched documentaries and news clips."

Then, the students had yet another extraordinary experience: the chance to speak via video teleconference to a refugee named Lubo, one of the estimated 20,000 Lost Boys who found themselves displaced or orphaned during a deadly civil war that began in Sudan in the 1980s. The students were very moved by Lubo's story as he told them about what he witnessed before he fled Sudan.

"The enemy from the North attacked, people were caught, houses burned, nothing [was] left," student Katie P. remembered him saying. "[It was] really sad because all he had and everything he lived for was no longer there, no one to count on, nothing."

"[We realized that] we usually took everything for granted," said Katie's classmate, Jennifer G. "We never appreciated what we had."

It's one thing to read about history, and quite another to hear from someone who lived it, and who made it clear that Sudan is still affected by life-threatening issues like poverty and lack of access to clean water. The students knew they had to do something, and that's when they asked: "How can we help?"

Soon, they found their answer.

The class was invited by the nonprofit group Mothering Across Continents to host a Walk for Wisdom walkathon to raise money and awareness for impoverished schools in South Sudan. It was a great idea—but the students wanted to take it further.

"We said 'yes,' but asked if we could involve our whole community," Mrs. Fleming said. She joined forces with Karen Puckett, a media specialist at Isenberg Elementary School in Salisbury, North Carolina, which had participated in a school-based Walk for Wisdom for several years.

Meanwhile, the students in Mrs. Fleming's class leaped into action, working in teams to design t-shirts and flyers for the April 2019 walkathon. They also created an iMovie, a website, and a GoFundMe page to help raise money.

Even after all that, the students were just getting started! They planned a Refugee Awareness Community Night at their local bookstore, where they spoke to Ngor Kur Mayol—another Sudanese refugee. The event featured their presentations, art, and writing, as well as a marketplace to raise money for a source of clean water for the students at Nyarweng Primary School in South Sudan.

Mrs. Fleming and her students hope they will eventually be able to exchange messages and photos with the Nyarweng Primary School pupils.

All this might be just the beginning of an ongoing effort. "Our hope is that these events will turn into yearly global events for our county, and that our community will unite for a global cause to help youth in another country," Mrs. Fleming explained.

Needless to say, Mrs. Fleming is extremely proud of how her class has stepped up to help—not that she's surprised.

"Our students have incredible ideas," she said. "All we need to do is listen and encourage. I love seeing where my students' voices and actions can lead us."

And if you want to make a difference in the lives of others, student Kimberly F. has some advice.

"You may think that starting a project to change the world would be difficult," she said. "But if you really put your mind into it, you can achieve amazing things. It can start with a simple act in your community, but you'll see that it will grow and grow."

Most importantly, the students say, don't ever feel like you're too young to make a mark on the world.

"There are many things we are limited to do because we are kids," Katie said. "A lot of people may underestimate [us], but that is what drives us to stand out and help other people."

A sound mind need a sound body error

Answers

Maintaining a sound mind and a sound body is crucial for overall well-being. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient rest contribute to both physical and mental health. Taking care of our bodies supports our mental well-being, while prioritizing mental health positively affects our physical health. Striving for a harmonious balance between the two is key to achieving optimal health and a fulfilling life.

"A sound mind needs a sound body" is a proverb that emphasizes the connection between physical and mental well-being. It suggests that maintaining a healthy body is essential for having a healthy mind. This concept has been recognized for centuries and is supported by scientific research.

When we talk about a sound mind, we are referring to mental health, which includes aspects such as emotional well-being, cognitive abilities, and overall psychological functioning. A sound body, on the other hand, refers to physical health, including fitness, proper nutrition, and adequate rest.

The connection between the two is bidirectional. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep promote the release of endorphins, which are chemicals that positively impact mood and reduce stress. Physical activity also improves blood flow to the brain, enhancing cognitive abilities such as memory and concentration.

Conversely, mental well-being has a profound impact on physical health. Stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues can lead to a variety of physical ailments, such as high blood pressure, weakened immune system, and disrupted sleep patterns. Chronic stress can even increase the risk of developing serious illnesses like heart disease and diabetes.
