Aqua regia, a mixture of HCl and HNO₃, has been used since alchemical times to dissolve many metals, including gold. Its orange color is due to the presence of nitrosyl chloride. Consider this one-step reaction for the formation of this compound:NO(g) + Cl₂(g) → NOCl (g) + Cl(g) ΔH° = 83KJ(b) Calculate Ea(rev) .

Answers

Answer 1

Aqua regia is an oxidative mixture that is highly corrosive and is composed of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid. The Ea (rev) for the reaction is 3 kJ.

What is activation energy?

The activation energy is the minimum required energy by the reactant to undergo changes to form the product. The activation energy of the reverse reaction is given by the difference in the production state and transition state.

It is given as,

Ea (rev) = Ea (fwd) − ΔHrxn

Given,

ΔH° = 83KJ

Ea (fwd) = 86 kJ/mol

Substituting the values above as:

Ea (rev) = 86 - 83

= 3 kJ

Therefore, the activation energy of the reverse reaction is 3 kJ.

why does the hydrogen gas need to flow continuously for a while before starting the heating process?

Answers

In the laboratory, hydrogen gas is used as fuel for various purposes, including heating. In order to start the heating process, it is necessary to allow the hydrogen gas to flow continuously for a while. This is because there may be air or other gases present in the hydrogen gas pipeline that can affect the heating process.

When the hydrogen gas is allowed to flow continuously for a while, the air or other gases are purged from the pipeline, which improves the quality of the hydrogen gas. This ensures that there is no interference with the heating process, which could otherwise lead to inaccurate results.The continuous flow of hydrogen gas is essential because if it is not allowed to flow for a while, air or other gases can cause damage to the burner or other equipment used for heating. The air or other gases can cause an explosion, which can result in severe injury or death.In conclusion, the hydrogen gas needs to flow continuously for a while before starting the heating process to remove any air or other gases from the pipeline. This improves the quality of the hydrogen gas, ensures accurate results, and prevents damage to the equipment. It is important to follow safety protocols when using hydrogen gas to prevent any accidents.

Solution of 0. 10 M silver nitrate, AgNO3, is added to a solution of 0. 10 M lithium hydroxide, LiOH. The Ksp of silver hydroxide is 2. 0 x 10-8. What happens to the pH as the silver nitrate is added, AgNO3

Answers

The pH remains unchanged as silver nitrate is added because the reaction between silver nitrate and lithium hydroxide does not involve the release or consumption of protons (H+ ions).

When silver nitrate (AgNO3) is added to lithium hydroxide (LiOH), a precipitation reaction occurs, forming silver hydroxide (AgOH) and lithium nitrate (LiNO3). The balanced equation for the reaction is:

2AgNO3 + 2LiOH -> Ag2OH + 2LiNO3

Since the Ksp (solubility product constant) of silver hydroxide is given as 2.0 x 10^-8, it indicates that silver hydroxide is only slightly soluble in water. As a result, most of the silver hydroxide formed will precipitate out of solution.

The pH of a solution is determined by the concentration of H+ ions. In this reaction, there is no consumption or production of H+ ions. Lithium hydroxide is a strong base that completely dissociates in water, but it does not affect the pH significantly as the concentration is low (0.10 M). Silver nitrate is a neutral salt, so it also does not contribute to any pH changes.

Therefore, the addition of silver nitrate does not have any significant impact on the pH of the solution. The pH remains unchanged throughout the reaction.

How many moles of a gas would occupy 22.4 Liters at 273 K and 1 atm?

Answers

Answer:

1 mole of a gas would occupy 22.4 Liters at 273 K and 1 atm

Explanation:

An ideal gas is a set of atoms or molecules that move freely without interactions. The pressure exerted by the gas is due to the collisions of the molecules with the walls of the container. The ideal gas behavior is at low pressures, that is, at the limit of zero density. At high pressures the molecules interact and intermolecular forces cause the gas to deviate from ideality.

An ideal gas is characterized by three state variables: absolute pressure (P), volume (V), and absolute temperature (T). The relationship between them constitutes the ideal gas law, an equation that relates the three variables if the amount of substance, number of moles n, remains constant and where R is the molar constant of the gases:

P * V = n * R * T

In this case:

P= 1 atmV= 22.4 Ln= ?R= 0.082 \(\frac{atm*L}{mol*K}\)T=273 K

Reemplacing:

1 atm* 22.4 L= n* 0.082 \(\frac{atm*L}{mol*K}\) *273 K

Solving:

\(n=\frac{1 atm* 22.4 L}{0.082 \frac{atm*L}{mol*K} *273 K}\)

n= 1 mol

Another way to get the same result is by taking the STP conditions into account.

The STP conditions refer to the standard temperature and pressure. Pressure values at 1 atmosphere and temperature at 0 ° C (or 273 K) are used and are reference values for gases. And in these conditions 1 mole of any gas occupies an approximate volume of 22.4 liters.

1 mole of a gas would occupy 22.4 Liters at 273 K and 1 atm

which empirical gas law describes the relationship between the volume and temperature of a gas when the number of moles and pressure are constant? please choose the correct answer from the following choices, and then select the submit answer button. answer choices

Answers

Charles's Law helps us understand the relationship between temperature and volume of a gas when other factors, such as pressure and number of moles, remain constant. The empirical gas law that describes the relationship between the volume and temperature of a gas when the number of moles and pressure are constant is Charles's Law.

This can be expressed mathematically as: V₁/T₁ = V₂/T₂
Where V₁ and V₂ represent the initial and final volumes of the gas, and T₁ and T₂ represent the initial and final temperatures of the gas, respectively. The relationship can also be stated as: V/T = constant

To illustrate this law, let's consider an example. Imagine a balloon filled with a fixed number of moles of gas at a constant pressure. If we were to heat the balloon by placing it in a warm environment, the temperature of the gas inside the balloon would increase.

To neutralize the acid in 10.0 mL of 18.0 M H2SO4 that was accidentally spilled on a laboratory bench top, solid sodium bicarbonate was used. The container of sodium

bicarbonate was known to weigh 155.0 g before this use and out of curiosity its mass was measured as 144.5 g afterwards. The reaction that neutralizes sulfuric acid this way is as follows: H2SO4 + 2 NaHCO3 ---> Na2SO4 + 2 CO2 + 2 H2O

Was sufficient sodium bicarbonate used? Calculate the limiting reactant and the maximum yield in grams of sodium sulphate.

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

The first step is to determine the amount of H2SO4 that was spilled:

moles of H2SO4 = concentration x volume

= 18.0 mol/L x 0.0100 L

= 0.180 mol

Next, we need to determine which reactant is limiting. To do this, we can compare the amount of moles of H2SO4 with the amount of moles of NaHCO3 that would be needed to completely neutralize it. From the balanced equation, we know that 1 mole of H2SO4 reacts with 2 moles of NaHCO3:

moles of NaHCO3 needed = 2 x moles of H2SO4

= 2 x 0.180 mol

= 0.360 mol

The mass of sodium bicarbonate used is the difference between the initial mass and the final mass:

mass of NaHCO3 used = 155.0 g - 144.5 g

= 10.5 g

We can convert the mass of NaHCO3 used to moles:

moles of NaHCO3 used = mass / molar mass

= 10.5 g / 84.01 g/mol

= 0.125 mol

Since we have more moles of H2SO4 than moles of NaHCO3 needed, the limiting reactant is NaHCO3. This means that H2SO4 is in excess.

To determine the maximum yield of Na2SO4, we need to calculate the theoretical yield based on the limiting reactant:

moles of Na2SO4 = 1/2 x moles of NaHCO3 used

= 1/2 x 0.125 mol

= 0.0625 mol

mass of Na2SO4 = moles x molar mass

= 0.0625 mol x 142.04 g/mol

= 8.88 g

Therefore, the maximum yield of Na2SO4 that can be obtained is 8.88 g. Since the actual amount of NaHCO3 used is less than what is needed to completely react with the H2SO4, we can conclude that not enough sodium bicarbonate was used.

Is mowing the lawn a physical change or a chemical change?

Answers

Answer:

Physical change

Explanation:

The only change is in the shape, or length in this case, of the object. So its chemical makeup is still the same, it's still grass.

Mowing the lawn is considered a physical change. A physical change is a change in the physical properties of a substance or material without altering its chemical composition.

A physical change is a transformation that alters the physical properties of a substance, such as size, shape, or phase, without changing its chemical composition. In the case of mowing the lawn, the grass is physically cut into smaller pieces, but the individual grass blades themselves remain chemically unchanged.

When you run a lawnmower over a lawn, the sharp blades of the mower cut through the grass, trimming it to a desired height. This action changes the appearance and size of the grass, but it does not alter the identity or chemical composition of the grass. The grass blades are still composed of the same materials, such as cellulose and other organic compounds.

When you mow the lawn, you are cutting the grass blades into smaller pieces, but the grass itself remains the same chemically. The process of mowing only affects the physical appearance and size of the grass, not its fundamental composition.

Therefore, mowing the lawn is considered a physical change.

Answers

In this question, we have the following reaction, which is the cellular respiration reaction:

C6H12O6 + 6 O2 --> 6 CO2 + 6 H2O

We have:

120 grams of CO2 being produced

The molar ratio between CO2 and O2 is 6:6, which means the same amount of moles produced of CO2 will be the same amount used of O2

Now we find the number of moles of CO2, using its molar mass = 44.01g/mol

44.01 grams = 1 mol

120 grams = x moles

44.01x = 120

x = 120/44.01

x = 2.73 moles of CO2

If we have 2.73 moles of CO2, we will also have 2.73 moles of O2, and to find its mass, we will also use the molar mass of O2 = 32g/mol

32 grams = 1 mol

x grams = 2.73 moles

x = 2.73 * 32

x = 87.4 grams of O2

The amount required of oxygen gas to produce 120 grams of CO2 based on the cellular respiration reaction will be 87.4 grams
