It is likewise most lamentable to think, how in taking Negros out of Africa, and selling of them here, That which GOD has joined together men do boldly rend asunder [Matt. 19:6]; Men from their Country, Husbands from their Wives, Parents from their Children. How horrible is the Uncleanness, Mortality, if not Murder, that the Ships are guilty of that bring great Crouds of these miserable Men, and Women. Methinks, when we are bemoaning the barbarous Usage of our Friends and kinsfolk in Africa: it might not be unseasonable to enquire whether we are not culpable in forcing the Africans to become Slaves amongst our selves. How does Sewall appeal to Christians in this excerpt? Briefly explain your answer. (100 words)

Answers

Answer:

In the excerpt above, written by Samuel Sewall, he appeals to Christians by quoting directly from the Bible. In the very first part of the paragraph, he quotes from Matthew 19:6 in order to draw in the attention of Christians and emphasize his point that all humans on Earth are equal to each other, and no one individual is superior to the another in the eyes of God. By making this direct quote to the Bible, Seqall effectively uses the Bible to convince Christians that all people, no matter their nationality, skin color, or gender, are equal.

So for image one you could write something along the lines of “The house loomed in the moonlight, menacing and cold. Wind howled through the night, the houses thin walls doing little to keep out the chill. I stepped carefully, as though someone may be woken up by my arrival. The house was supposed to be empty, but as I held my breath, I heard a child’s laughter cut short by a mother’s harsh scolding. A chill went up my spine, though this time not from the wind. I pressed forward, making my way to a 2nd floor bedroom. The furniture was covered by dusty, yellowed sheets and the thick red curtains were drawn. Peering outside, I saw a figure leaning under the old willow that stood crooked outside. Gasping, I stumbled back, “I’ve got to get out of here” I mumbled before feeling a tug on my shoulder. “Going so soon?” whispered a man’s voice, so deep the floors shook beneath me.”

Inductive reasoning is when you make a generalization based on specific observations or evidence. In this case, the observation is that the l-10 Freeway in Ontario averages 15-30 minute delays between certain hours six days a week. Explain. "We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." -Plato

Answers

In this passage, Plato believes that since children frequently experience a fear of the dark, it is acceptable to overlook it. But he emphasizes that adults' aversion to information and enlightenment is the real tragedy.

It means that rejecting reality and knowledge results in a considerable loss of life. This Plato quotation demonstrates the divergent views on fear. According to Plato, a child's fear of the dark is normal and understandable because it is a common phobia. However, he considers it tragic when mature men shun the light, which stands for knowledge, reality, and enlightenment. Plato suggests that adults who hold back from accepting knowledge and truth, perhaps as a result of their own prejudices or ignorance, miss out on the chance to advance their own understanding and progress. It implies that the inability to face and embrace the enlightening truths about the universe is what makes life truly tragic.

An organism that is well adapted to its environment is more likely to survive and reproduce than one that is not. Why are sled dogs capable of spending so much time in the cold? Sled dogs are capable of spending long periods of time in the cold because they have adapted to it over thousands of years. My parents came here from Colombia during a time of great instability there. Escaping a dire economic situation at home, they moved to New Jersey, where they had friends and family, seeking a better life, and then moved to Boston after I was born. Throughout my childhood I watched my parents try to become legal but to no avail. They lost their money to people they believed to be attorneys, but who ultimately never helped. That meant my childhood was haunted by the fear that they would be deported. If I didn’t see anyone when I walked in the door after school, I panicked. And then one day, my fears were realized. I came home from school to an empty house. Lights were on and dinner had been started, but my family wasn’t there. Neighbors broke the news that my parents had been taken away by immigration officers, and just like that, my stable family life was over. Not a single person at any level of government took any note of me. No one checked to see if I had a place to live or food to eat, and at 14, I found myself basically on my own. While awaiting deportation proceedings, my parents remained in detention near Boston, so I could visit them. They would have liked to fight deportation, but without a lawyer, and with an immigration system that rarely gives judges the discretion to allow families to stay together, they never had a chance. Finally, they agreed for me to continue my education at Boston Arts Academy, a performing arts high school, and the parents of friends graciously took me in. I was lucky to have good friends, but I had a rocky existence. I was always insecure about being a nuisance and losing my invitation to stay. I worked a variety of jobs in retail and at coffee shops all through high school. And, though I was surrounded by people who cared about me, part of me ached with every accomplishment, because my parents weren’t there to share my joy. My family and I worked hard to keep our relationships strong, but too-short phone calls and the annual summer visits I made to Colombia didn’t suffice. They missed many important events in my life, including my singing recitals—they watched my senior recital on a tape I sent them instead of from the audience. And they missed my prom, my college application process and my graduations from high school and college. My story is all too common. Every day, children who are U.S. citizens are separated from their families as a result of immigration policies that need fixing. I consider myself lucky because things turned out better for me than for most, including some of my own family members. When my brother was deported, his daughter was just a toddler. She still had her mother, but in a single-parent household, she faced a lot of challenges. My niece made the wrong friends and bad choices. Today, she is serving time in jail, living the reality that I act out on screen.* I don’t believe her life would have turned out this way if her father and my parents had been here to guide and support her. I realize the issues are complicated. But it’s not just in the interest of immigrants to fix the system: It’s in the interest of all Americans. Children who grow up separated from their families often end up in foster care, or worse, in the juvenile justice system despite having parents who love them and would like to be able to care for them. I don’t believe it reflects our values as a country to separate children and parents in this way. Nor does it reflect our values to hold people in detention without access to good legal representation or a fair shot in a court of law. President Obama has promised to act on providing deportation relief for families across the country, and I would urge him to do so quickly. Keeping families together is a core American value. Congress needs to provide a permanent, fair legislative solution, but in the meantime families are being destroyed every day, and the president should do everything in his power to provide the broadest relief possible now. Not one more family should be separated by deportation. From "My Parents Were Deported" by Diane Guerrero (Copyright © Diane Guerrero, 2014).

Barack Obama was the first African American President of the United States of America.

In this excerpt that was written by “My Parents Were Deported” by Diane Guerrero, she talks about how the people were being deported and after that, there was no one present to give any help with the legal information also how it was difficult for him to regulate and live a life when the parents were being detained.

By this statement, Obama wanted to say that while waiting for Congress to come up with a durable, equitable compromise solution, families are being decimated every day. There shouldn't be any more family-splitting deportations. Therefore, option D is the correct option.
